I went into the pharmacy yesterday and got talking to the pharmacist about fishing.......he pulled out his phone and showed me footy of the white they caught on the Lennox drumline the other day, he was snapper fishing in a boat just off the Point........holy shite, it was creating quite a stink. In the background I could see the Skullcandy grom comp going on.

That was a pretty big one.
They're everywhere! We'll have to kill EVERYTHING. Whales, seals, fish, sharks, rays, turtles, every fcuken thing. Then News Ltd readers will finally be safe.
Yeah there's tonnes more bulls and probably a LOT more tigers than there are white sharks in Aussie waters. Look at the Old drum catch, nearly 300 tigers a year, doesn't even cover most of northern Australia and none of West Oz, where they tried drumming for a little while off the Perth beaches and some of the SW caught 170 tigers and no white sharks in less than a year. There's thousands of bulls in the God Coast waterways alone.

Bulls are rife, and I see their shit EVERYWHERE!
Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
Well I was alluding the observations about what was happening at NSW beaches thru the tagging and monitoring programmes.
Not fcuking Gold Coast canals or WA where they screwed up.

As Beany said, get the Japanese involved. They can start catching all these species for "scientific purposes". They'll be wiped out in no time.Nick Carroll wrote:

whats interesting to me is that obviously white shark numbers are high in the Evans/Ballina/Lennox region but afaik encounters/interactions/attacks have been absent.
Maybe the array of smart drumlines is having a protective effect.

There may be a deterrent effect on white sharks from netting/drum lines as well as the effect from culling

What is significant these last 10 days that the aerial observations have been in place,is the numbers being sighted....more than the tagged ones swimming past the receptors....(mind you a tagged one can be spotted by air too)
TIP of the ICEBERG if ya ask me.....the aerial sees the ones that are visible ie near the surface....the tagged ones are reported if they swim within X(???) distance of the receptors.
Then theres the untagged ones and the ones too far off the coast and the ones that are too deep to see.
Double/Triple or 100x the amount we are interacting with....NO ONE knows.

I built a full shark autopsy area for vic about 10yrs ago now down at Cronulla fisheries. big storage fridge, undercover outdoor area with expoy floor to hose off the blood etc. then that peanut from the libs closed it down saying it was run down. despite the fact it had a new 500k lab finished 2yrs prior and I had had about that in upgrade works. lots of redundancies then the others got uprooted to jobs up and down the coast or other govt depts. a lot of knowledge got pushed out the door....steve shearer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2017 12:15 pmyeah, that renewal of the beach netting for sambos north of the harbour seemed to stop the big schools coming north to here........but still 224 tonnes is a drop in the bucket for that species.
Anyway, minus that food source there are still shiteloads of juvey/sub-adult whites here......I really would like to see stomach content analysis of what they are eating.

Maybe some of it is people changing their behaviour. It's not really being examined or observed which I think is a shame, there's as much to be learned through that as there is through counting sharks etc.steve shearer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2017 3:46 pmwhats interesting to me is that obviously white shark numbers are high in the Evans/Ballina/Lennox region but afaik encounters/interactions/attacks have been absent.

Dead shark chucked out the back, minus eyelids, liver and scrotum may be just as good

C'mon Steve. You have reported decent surf but surprisingly few or no one out on many an occasion, which you have attributed to shark fear/caution.

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
It's not quite that simple Foamy.
attacks tend to happen in small groups, overwhelmingly......and at most spots there are still small groups.
So even if there are 10 people surfing North Wall instead of 50 that does not have any explanatory power as to the lack of shark interactions/encounters/attacks when we know shark numbers in the area are high.
But maybe Nick means something else? I asked him with genuine curiosity, because I am observing and examining both my own behaviour, the behaviour of my family and the behaviour of other surfers and their families.
