Holy shit, a surfer has died after a shark attack in northern New South Wales.

The attack is thought to have occurred in the past hour on Salt Beach, just south of Kingscliff.

A helicopter is tracking the shark and transmitting the footage.

Casuarina apparently. There's a resident tiger shark that hangs around the reef and cruises up and down the beach, but the attack was reportedly a great white ... not a lot of info coming through as yet, but Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaak !
The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.

News reports saying 60yo from Queensland. Tragic. Apparently other surfers fought it off and dragged him to shore. Mate lives there. Waiting to hear from him.

Mate just texted me. He was there earlier and was told by a bloke in the carpark to be careful that a shark had been seen in the lineup. He decided to give it a miss and went home. Heard the sirens and helicopter a short time later. Knew exactly what was happening. Said he feels sick. Very thankful to the guy in the carpark.

It's a pretty sharky stretch of beach there. They had a lot of hassles with the SLSC when they wanted to put flags up and have it patrolled. Very exposed and with the reef and bommies up the beach it attracts marine life.

Steve, the BG article talks about carrying tourniquets. Do you have one considering where you surf? My Mrs gave me one that the cops carry. It’s kept in my car. Simple to use.
