Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
I met up with an old mate last week who was a pro fisherman most of his life in SA.
He thinks there's been a gradual increase in pointer numbers in SA, based on his own sightings and those of other fisherman and also what he hears from other surfer's sightings, and none of this ever gets a mention outside of a small circle.
The other thing that has been noticed is increased seal numbers over the last few years. They have been spotted on small islands and rocky outcrops in places where they had not been seen before, not in living memory anyway.
He thinks it's all a result of decreased fishing effort by pros who were previously killing sharks that are now protected and also there's less pros fishing anyway. Even since pointers became protected, quite a few were killed by pros unintentionaly. Small pointers generally won't attack large prey like a seal, they can get injured themselves.

Doesnt seem as bad as last year but white are still being regularly spotted by aerial surveillance.
can't find confirmation about the drum line captures off Ballina....but it wouldn't surprise me.

A bunch of sightings in the last few weeks, and two tagged today on the banana coast.

I'm all for tagging ... its only in the equipment where my opinion varies. They should be using 303 power-heads instead.

Yes. They guarantee you won't be attacked by a shark if you stay west of it.Beanpole wrote:Shark Barrier?

They're back - but a bit further southhttp://www.smh.com.au/victoria/third-surfer-in ... riujy.html
PS: Never admit to 'squealling' even when being attacked by shark. Not cool.

Also probably not a Thresher shark - more likely to be a Seven Gill shark. The'ye a bit aggro and have form on the Surf Coast and Peninsula.
