Yep, know it well. I've surfed it quite often but never had it all line up like it obviously can.
Old mate seems to just permanently cruise the lakes entrance. Not a bad idea if you were a shark.
There's another sneaky spot around there Ive had fun with a couple of times.
Had much better waves at Boomerang.

IF, theres just one tagged white@ main beach, its there EVERY day....but there may be a few.
I read last week that theres over 100 tagged GWs along the NSW coastline....I don't think they are endangered anymore.
How many untagged ones are there, 100? 1000? more????

Dorsal replied in a query, the DPI does not share the information regarding the shark tag #.
Ie it is not specified if it's one shark pinging the receiver 100 times or 100 sharks pinging it once.

Pretty vital piece of information if they are in any way serious about educating the public to be "shark smart".
Otherwise it's a sham.

Ask for the info from DPI via a GIPA request

I reckon it's far more likely that one tagged shark has set up camp at the lakes entrance where the fishing boats come in than a new shark with a tag pops up for a look every day.surfywurfy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2017 3:03 pmIF, theres just one tagged white@ main beach, its there EVERY day....but there may be a few.

I'm not sure when the "tagging" started but a biggish GW was hanging round Main Beach,Forster a couple of years ago...Tagging has happened on lots of juves, they will bite anything. But the disturbing thing is that they are guna BREED big time...bring a few Orcas to the NSW coast!
Reported today of a 2.5m GW having a go at a fishing boat a mile out from Nambucca river entrance.

CSIRO DNA family mapping from about two years ago reckoned there are about 6000 white sharks in Australian waters of an original pre-European population of 30,000.surfywurfy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2017 3:03 pmIF, theres just one tagged white@ main beach, its there EVERY day....but there may be a few.

Oh and in the same time frame the human population of Australia has gone from somewhere around 320,000 to 24 million.

Is that why there was only 30,000?Nick Carroll wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2017 2:35 pmCSIRO DNA family mapping from about two years ago reckoned there are about 6000 white sharks in Australian waters of an original pre-European population of 30,000.surfywurfy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2017 3:03 pmIF, theres just one tagged white@ main beach, its there EVERY day....but there may be a few.

6000, no wonder the surf was so uncrowded!

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
Oh look I suspect the well founded Indigenous fear of shark attack is probably part of why nobody got into surf play back in the day. Most Polynesians did some form of surfing, so did West Africans, what with living in warm water coastlines and having a fair bit of spare time etc. Hawaiians really elevated the pastime though they were pretty wary of the tiger shark, they tended to surf in groups which seems to deter some sharks. But there woulda been a shit ton of dangerous sharks off the Australian SE coasts back then, not just whites but bulls, tigers etc.
Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
Jesus, so now they are a protected species I wonder how long it will take to get back to that population?
I don't think there will be any ocean water sports if that ever happens.
