Something of a panacea for all shark related issues.

By who? Was it the same one Mick might have seen?saltman wrote: Shark sightings for Mon, 17 Aug, 2015.
1. A shark was spotted at "Middles", Hastings Point, this morning - described as "very large"
Last four weeks, everyday, there has been a "sighting" at every spot I've surfed. Feeling like the boy who cried wolf needs a TV rerun.
Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
Almost every surfer alive has grown up during a time of unprecedented safety in the surf, due to massively reduced numbers of large sharks because of overfishing.Nick Carroll wrote:ha ha. looks like lil brother has stumbled into a relationship with shark shield at just the right moment.
my god but this is a mongo period in surfing. hard core long term surfers who grew up in and believed in every aspect of the core baby boomer surf culture, from Nature=God on down, now want to kill an unspecified number of nature's apex creatures to allow them some fear free surf time. some sort of shit filled pond in Wales sporting a visibly shithouse pretend wave is getting hyped as the future of the sport. fat old rubbernecks paddle around on SUPs like they're Laird Hamilton. everywhere you look, something stupid is happening.
that old chestnut about Pro Surfing Being Evil is looking scrawnier by the day really isn't it. compared with the flailing mong fests elsewhere in the sport.
But I agree that Tom's timing and choice of device is good:

The air bubble release is a good invention for divers who have the advantage of seeing a shark coming at them.
For surfers you would need some sort of sensor to activate it, bit like a modern cars parking sensor, shark gets close say 3 metres, sensor triggers a few tiny gas canisters (similar to the soda water canister) surfer instantly surrounded by bubbles and shark has a WTF moment.

You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

^ Looks more like a vindaloo.
Heard on ABC local radio that the Ballina shark report facebook page has been shut down, apparently it was having a bad effect on tourism and there was too much venting.
In the 5 weeks it operated there were 35 separate sightings.
So there you have it, tourism (MONEY) is more important than peoples safety.

Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
i wonder if the operators of the page got a handsome little council payout to shut it down?
Re: Nth NSW sharks. Can they p!ss off already?
There will be hell to pay if more people get attacked. A liability claim against the local council or website operator, although preposterous, is possible.

i'd imagine if a shark attacks another person, holding a website or fb page culpable would be near on impossible to prove in a court.

I agree with you, but what's the bet that some desperado will try it on.
