steve shearer wrote:Braith do you advocate for the removal of all the QLD shark control measures?
of course i do.
did an 8-month stint with surfrider foundation back in about 1999 when they were based in murraba st at currumbin, where i was writing and advocating daily for them to be removed.

at least that's what my uneducated eyes saw.
I think Mick would be willing to question your theory about who was the most wigged out.

I think the real question is who would have done the most technically perfect but safe surfing in the final.
For mine the fact they both got 2nd seemed just.

zero chance.
in 1999, and again when i checked back in with all parties in 2003 when i was at surfing life ... the qld government & gold coast council have tied some kind of illogical bow around shark nets mean tourists come here and buy stuff and sustain life.
without the nets, they said, there would be no us...
seaworld made a really big push to have them removed in 2009 i think it was (boo would probs know?) and they made a little bit of leeway with the whole whale migration scene being dishevelled by the nets and there may have even been a council vote, but ultimately it got back to that (imo) flawed logic of shark nets equal large sums of tourist dollars.

"Recent satellite tracking studies indicate that the white shark may spend considerable periods of each year in waters remote from pinniped colonies and will undertake very different predatory behaviours while doing so (Boustany et al., 2002; Bruce et al., 2006; Weng et al., 2007a; Domeier & Nasby-Lucas, 2008). Observations on how sharks behave at pinniped colonies cannot necessarily be used to infer behaviour in other habitats and around other
prey species. This may also apply to inferences about shark behaviour with respect to
attacks on humans."
No wonder the cnuts were nearly extinct such a shit aim they catch the middle of the legrope instead of the limb.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Agreed. I thought most of the surfing at the pointy end if the comp was restrained and a bit boring.

What's the difference between Elizabeth Warren & Kamala Harris?
One's pretending to be an Indian & the others pretending she isn't!

So, the question is, does Mick bounce back in time for Tahiti and power home for the rest of the season, or is he too rattled? Fair enough if its the latter, but hope its the former.

Spot on. Was just eyeballing Fanning if it wanted a piece of him or test bite he would be missing a foot or severed at the least.
If it was in attack mode the shark would have hit him full speed from underneath.

When those beasts are in attack mode they are absolute brutal killing machines,
referring to the Welsh seagulls of course.

Faaark! I wondered who you could see out surfing J Bay, over Todd Kline's shoulder, as he wrapped things up after the shark incident. Sean Doherty tells us it was Derek Hynd. That's perfect.
Doherty's writeup. Very good, as always.

After surfing regularly with the Player brothers over a decade ago I can appreciate the subtleties and skill of a good BBr.
Still pics do not do em justice,However I reckon still pics often flatter stand ups (hence I have no videos of myself )
There is some good riding here. Its a very tricky wave and incredibly shallow at the end. The ASP had a stop here I think a few years ago.
Was too big last night but should be on tonight from around 9 or 10pm
