Lennox has a vibrant Asian community, ballina has very strong migrant communities , The bundjalung nation is very strong in Ballina Byron and has the first Indigenous Land Use Agreement with council in the country. Byron would be the most cosmopolitan and progressive small town in Australia, day light second.
You'll see far more aboriginal people in the area then you will in Cronulla.

Lennox or Cloudbreak?
Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?
I'm gonna get them professionally sprayed. It will simulate that aging yellow and myriads of deck depressions, and I'll add some board stickers:Beerfan wrote:Cmon cranked the cool kids don't like the boards you ride so shut up and buy some polys soon. You're making them uncomfortable
A different one for each board.
Also simulated triple stringers and that V stringer thing that Outer Islands does. I'll be the envy of every Realsurfer.
No one will ever know!

You're obviously Perth born and bred Legion. I'm just a blow-in who's never adjusted to the Perth reality.Legion wrote:Heresy! I probably surf at least 75% of my time in onshore conditions, sometimes for months at a time. Sometimes when it's clean or offshore I go up to hit a heavy pitching lip ... and there's nothing there and I bog the shit out of a top turn (just ask 'boo). Love me the unpredictability and playfulness of onshore conditions. When it's 20kt+, I froth.Cranked wrote: 2. I find onshore days are a very inferior surf experience, say a 3 out of 10 compared to a 10 out of 10 for offshore/calm days.

You did in your own way, sub $200 return airfares to Indo.Cranked wrote: You're obviously Perth born and bred Legion. I'm just a blow-in who's never adjusted to the Perth reality.

You've only surfed Lennox once Iggs and you grew up in Qld?
What did you do with your youth? Spend it playing computer games and finger bashing bush pigs at the blue light disco?
Dav is put Lennox and Cloudbreak on a similar pedestal. Both classic waves that break from 2ft to 20.

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?
I never bothered with Lennox as it always looked too packed. So I'd either surf north or south wall, or boulders. Or flat rock, scennars, Angels, wherever was on.
I'd only bother going down Ballina way if the south swell wasn't making its way up to the GC points to be at least chest to head high.
I'd head down there a few times a year, and mostly surf north wall Aframes.

It is quite intimidating with the rocks and the locals.
Does keep plenty of people away.

I only ever took one board to Indo on my 3 only trips since '94. A 6'2 Tassie shaped Savage square tail.
Still buzz from that first Ulu' session as much as that first Ox rock off a few years ago on a More squat thingy you lent me.
They're both temples of a break. But then again, .....I'm a bleeding heart nostalgist who values the stoke over the doctrine.

In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?
Sorry shep, Cloudbreak has it all over lennox.
reef bottom >>> sand bottom, no matter how good that sand can be, it still washes away. if it washes away, the wave immediately becomes fickle, as you're not only waiting for premium swell, direction and wind to influence the wave, but also bathymetry. not one single objective surfer who's had any time at either wave would pick lennox.
lennox on it's day is for sure a world class wave, but true lennox (breaking all the way through) happens about as much as the old Kirra (from big to little groyne) used to. a handful of days a year dependant on more variables than cranked's quiver.
CB is on another plane entirely. there's something about sitting in the middle of fucking nowhere, with no landmarks, not knowing where you need to be sitting and then a set rolls through. easiest wave to cop a double-hold down too. i'm still not sure how more people don't drown out there.
... to be honest, i'd take shipsterns over lennox too, you're never comfortable out there either, miles from help and that wave will literally crush your bones upon impact.
