Though I'm sure this period of darkness will bring out the best in you :)

There’s some very skilled surfing going on, but with the mechanical wave, the rides just seem like busywork. Watching it is deadening.

Fairdinkum. The monorail of surfing.

Corporate survival is an infectious disease. Even the most healthy and seemingly strong catch the bug.

Lemoore is to surfing what Guantanamo Bay is to luxury resorts.

I just watched one wave of Kolohe's waves.
God it was safe.

And I can't understand why if they know EXACTLY what the wave is going to be they are still running boards that require the double wiggle bottom turn to get the water through the find?
The girl's boards seem to suit the pool better, and Gabby always seems to surf better with the wider tail.

I'm impressed by the wave, it's a great feat of engineering.
They've tweaked it a bit, and the water is a better colour.

I only saw 3 waves, they seemed better, like the water level was lower.
Could've been better camera angles, the ski angle is not flattering at all.
The lip line is more oblique, giving a steeper transition in the turn sections, but the trade-off is a greater need to maintain speed down the line, ie safety surfing for the up and down surfers. For the good Jbay surfers that's a plus, for others it highlights the gulf in performance and technique.

Barrel sections seem worse/less perfect.

Whoever designed the wsl website needs a karate chop to the throat. You have to turn on the scores, but it has the video duration so it looks like noone got over a 3.20

The lyrics of the annoying song they have on repeat this year.
I've caught a few

"It's getting hard, hard to explain, It's insane.
It's time to let go, I won't let go."

Sums up this event really.

Ever since the WSL took over, that website has been a shambles.
They've changed it a number of times and it is always a fucking nightmare to navigate.

Was it Nat Young that said our biggest mistake was telling people Surfing was a sport rather than (insert one) lifestyle/ art/ passion etc?

It’s absolutely dreadful. Fair play to you steve if you can sit through the whole thing
if you could find a single positive thing to say about it what would it be Godsave?
I don’t think I could find one in all honesty. I don’t necessarily think that the idea of pool comps is dead but it does seem that surf ranch isn’t the pool for the job. The wave is too long, the barrel is largely pointless, the predictability an awful thing when coupled to the safety surfing. The whole just seems weirdly futile. Also, and I didn’t really anticipate this, but the leaderboard thing and associated removal of the puncher’s chance has a massive negative impact on the levels of drama
