I know Cranky. Was just after some advice about cool places to stay that people might have been to. I’m not paying for flights and only spend cash on accommodation. Thought Acheh would be cool because 15 years ago they lost 250,000 people which was a large proportion of their population. And like the idea of going somewhere that is not one of the usual surf destinations.
Hot bed of fundamentalist zealotry. Great if Sharia Law Enforcement rocks your boat.

But you see Beans, Minister for the bleeding obvious. I’m aware of that and it’s one of the reasons that I want go. I can see why it wouldn’t appeal to you though,my learned pickled friend because you can’t get shitfaced every night.

Jimmy I've got a mate who does aid work in Aceh.
He surfs, and has been trying to get me there for years. I can ask him for some info.

Mrs Cranked and I went to Yogyakarta, the fundamentalist heartland of Indonesia, early last year for a few weeks. Must admit that we were slightly apprehensive. We only saw a couple of westerners the whole time, but the locals were even friendlier than the Balinese.

I'm a bit funny about putting myself in the middle of fundamentalist enclaves of any sort, Jimbo. You go right ahead though. If that's what rocks your boat.

I’d pay good money to see you over there tippy toeing around scared out of your wits, and aching for that drink you can’t have.

I've been to more Islamic Countries than you have Hatchie. Buying a house in Lakemba is hardly a cutting edge ethnic experience. I think most fundamentalist zealots are dangerous and ignorant. Christian, Islamic or Hindu for that matter. You just have a parochial romantic image of living in the South West of Sydney. I understand that you've integrated into the community.

I just don’t see why you’d feel so uncomfortable unless you had a genuine issue with the short term restrictions (abstinence) while over there. As cranked said, he found them to be very friendly people. So what if they believe in god and don’t drink. Surely you’re worldly and thick skinned enough to just deal with it for a short spell.

If I had to. Not much reason to choose there rather than anywhere else in Asia though. Not like I'd be racing off to Salt Lake City to hang out with Mormons either.

I’d love that, Boo. I think going to a place that lost 75% of their population 15 years ago would be an awesome place to support.

I've heard great things about Aceh. A couple of seasoned surfers I know head there regularly and I believe this time of year can be really good there.

Sounds like a big step up from swanning about on a boat passing villages of people living in poverty. Did a couple of brief activities with a group of people in Cambodia who are helping to build local medical facilities over there. I've thought about giving it more of a real try when I'm not working.

Beanpole, I think you should go to Crescent Head on the weekend, it might actually look like a full on surf spot, good winds too.

Love to but unfortunately work has other ideas. You're right though. Nice looking conditions for it.

I get worried when Nick says it will look like a full on spot. What’s your forecast for NSW, Nick? 8 - 10 foot from the north east?
