It genuinely has no impact on me either way

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

Well the name Surf Ranch is so dandy.

When I was working in the US one of the guys told me he was spending summer at a dude ranche. I was like "yeah thats cool mate, It's great you feel you can tell people that". Didn't realise all they did was ride horses.

It reinvigorated my faith in that indefinable thing that is the soul of surfing. The ersatz bullshit of the WSL corporate group think is a demeaning
insult to the core fabric of what surfing really is.
You know what reinvigorated my faith in the soul of surfing, I took my 8ft single fin out and caught a stack of waves, was mesmerized on every onw of them, smiled myself stupid and didnt care for another thing in the world.
Well there's always that. I do it just about every day for 5 months a year and it never gets old.

And speaking of single fins, I've had the finbox replaced in my 6'8 Zot and I'm planning on taking all three Zots (6'1, 6'8, 7') to Bali next trip and spending the whole month riding them as singles.

They are definitely the fastest boards I've ridden as singles, I'm just having a few control problems though.

I'll try Geof's Gulwing, Cheyne's Starfin, a traditional dolphin single, and a 2+1

JJFs clip is pretty awesome. Still prefer the messiah hack though. JJF just makes it look so casually easy. Pool no contest

So the supposed only screening of jjf’s clip had the same number of viewers as a WSL contest
So Jjf doesn’t need the WSL

All this really tells ya is that roughly the same people are watching both.

It tells you the income distribution in pro surfing is wildly, wildly skewed..........JJF is probably making more from a single endorsement (Hurley) than the entire back half of the Tour put together.

And that seems legitimate.

So, no, he doesn't need the Tour. He's set for life as a dual world Champ.

Well yeah, I guess I am thinking more about the WSL’s stated aim of expanding the pro tour viewership beyond the surfing core audience. An aim which as far as I can tell has so far completely avoided them.

They don’t really get that their actions are in constant comparison with both the history of the sport and with other current events in surf culture, events over which they have no control.

And really, nobody else is watching.

Well it's a bit like skiing from that regard. Apart from thrill seeking stuff like the jumps how wide an audience does downhill slalom have outside people who actually ski?
Now a lot more people ski than surf worldwide but I imagine it's not big in Mexico or South America.

Really? They're very different products, appeal to different audiences and are consumed differently.

A 6 minute clip is something I can watch on my tea break at work, or while I'm waiting for a file to download, and send to my bros via social media. Although tbh I was a bit underwhelmed after the hype.
I imagine the audience is mainly competent surfers.

It is very different to setting aside 4 days and nights to watch the pool/tracking the weather in Portugal and trying to figure out what time it will run, sometime over the next fortnight.
Even when I worked from home I'd never see more than a few hours of Margs or Bells.
Just for starters, lots of workplaces ban streamed video.
And when it gets packaged into a 30s spot for the news it's going to a bunch of people who don't know anything about the sport.

I think 'the same of viewers as WSL' figure was for the supposedly one-off Facebook Live screening.

Half an hour to go until it starts.
But yeah, it was put on Vimeo soon after the Facebook Live screening and it is over 200k viewings there.

Yeah I got that, but I think it is similar numbers but a different set of viewers.
We need a Venn diagram.
