Oh and the pin in the map on their spot guide for ballina is by north wall, so I think you can assume they’re forecasting for there if you still want to check their breaking wave height accuracy

Steve. Once again, the msw Lennox forecast is for the swell on your nearest buoy. It tells you their guess for swell height and period and also swell direction. This is verifiable quite easily from actual buoy readings. I don’t know why it has a Lennox forecast that isn’t directly relevant to the actual spot. To look more comprehensive than it actually is perhaps? Who knows. The fact is though, it’s just a 60km out to sea or whatever swell forecast. Getting back to a question I asked about 100 years ago, if their swell forecasts - as verifiable by the buoys - are indeed accurate, does this information not have some value to the seasoned surf forecaster? Isn’t it doing at least some of the legwork for you?

To summarise something that could have a thousand words written on it; rarely and barely.

The NSW buoy array have some use for tracking S swells as they propagate up the coast but they have a very limited use for determining actual wave heights for a whole range of reasons. \

Primarily, and in the case yesterday; massive amounts of windswell contamination.

I also contest whether the Lennox surf forecast gives an accurate reflection of Byron Buoy readings, if that is what they are trying to do as you suggest (god knows why).

I think I’m happy to concede that magic seaweed is absolutely hopeless for your stretch of coast

You don’t really need any of this shit. You just use the BOM charts and ascat wind surface scans. Like why the hell anyone would ever look at Magic goddam seaweed anyway.

I think we should relapse into deep mysticism. I personally want to see a shaman shaking a pole with human skulls rattling as he chants and gestures to the moon, throwing down a flurry of human knuckles and divining the coming waves.

3-5ft.......very slow, inconsistent but some real screamers. Insanely crowded. Dropping swell.
Lot of waiting around for 1 wave sets.

I tried to play a patience game....the very best wave that came my way....right in the slot for...there was another guy waiting inside me. It was his wave by rights. I said, You got it X.... he said yep.
I turned and didn't even look at it.
He didn't catch it.
C'est la vie.

If thats the biggest problem I have to deal with , life is going alright.

I'm very patient, very gentlemanly in the water. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt.
Still ridden millions of waves in this lifetime.

Hopefully X will do the same for me.

Wow what have I just read :o

Kilojoules for wave forecasting.. a product of period and open ocean swell height which generally get incorrectly combined if there's multiple swells from the same angle or similar periods.

It's jiberish and looking at Sydney today KJ's are 261 but south facing beaches are overhead, doesn't line up Cranked..

You'd just found a way to correlate the KJ to size on your coast which generally sees swells rise and fall without too much contamination.

I'd guarantee it would totally muck up the forecast for a large long-period groundswell which has fore-runners arriving a day before, followed by the bulk of the swell.

Leave the Kilojoules for those talking about the consumption and burning of energy.

The kilojoules don’t lie
