I still retain a romantic semi-spiritual (in my mind) connection with snapper and environs based on my formative experiences there throughout the 1970s. I have many memories of that time that remain very clear and present to me. A bit ridiculous perhaps with the modern snapper and I have largely let the romanticism go.

Ronnie Blakey said on today’s commentary, “The CT is returning to Snapper from 2025 with massive support from the Gold Coast City Council and the Qld State government.”.

Yes.
Why did you bold massive?

Because it sounds like a lot and Ronnie stressed the ‘massive’.

It would be significant but he would have no idea about specifics- that information is concealed in commercial in confidence documents.

I liked how on the ABC (both TV and radio) they got the press release wrong and said that the event will bring in 14,0000 visitors. And they kept it up all morning and night.
Sounds like a very conservative WSL figure.
edit: meant to type 14000.

WSL would call it 14 million

Sure, but he would be privy to the in-house WSL celebratory messaging that a big one had been landed and I think he would have a pretty good feel for the ballpark figure.

Few slabby pits behind the rock.
The contestants are all shoulder hopping.

The person in the middle of the pic is giving the save-me signal, might be a BJ in it if you’re quick enough Steve.

I was thinking along similar lines. Not the shoulder hopping, but opportunities behind the rock.
There probably weren't enough coming through to warrant sitting there while the other competitors racked up good scores on the wider sets.

Much higher risk of not making a set wave. As opposed to a guaranteed high point wave.
Fcuk I’m glad we canned going up there. We would have been staying in the middle of the comp zone.

Nah, we had booked a place at Rainbow Bay. I was trying to work out if it was going to overlap with the comp. Anyway we got our money back. Might have been overlooking Jimbos pad.

Yeh, I was just imagining the locals watching the unridden ones draining up top. There was definitely a few that connected and then grew again.
