From Stu at Swellnet

Keen readers of Swellnet may have noticed a new byline appearing on select surf forecasts over the last fortnight.

Actually, ‘reappearing’ is the more accurate description.

It’s been nearly ten years since Steve Shearer worked for Swellnet. In that time governments have risen and fallen, a non-surfing billionaire bought the sport, and a bastard bug brought the world to its knees - and there’s been the odd spot of surfing too.

With Steve back on board it kinda feels like the old band is getting back together. He was already with Swellnet when I started and we worked on some fun projects together before parting ways. During the interlude, Steve wrote for many publications, that work only reinforcing my belief that he’s the most talented surf writer of our generation - though if you get me on a good day I’ll tell you he’s the most talented of all time.

He’s also versatile. Fella can easily switch modes from creative to analytical - from right to left-brain - come forecast time. Steve’s currently writing our East Coast forecasts, studying a body of water he knows intimately, but before long he’ll have both hemispheres firing, contributing to Swellnet on the editorial side as well.

Fighting words there for Carroll, eh?
We don’t want Steve getting a big head now.

I like Steves writing, he writes goodly, even if he does love quoting dead philosophers. I think the fact that he often has an axe to grind, keeps him edgy, if not sounding somewhat jaded at times ... but yeah, he writes good. NC, writes betterer though, along with apparently having a kick arse superannuation balance, and owning real estate, which could be the gentrification of surfing that riles the Longtard so much.

I just hope he introduces goats onto the site and tips on swinging board rack construction. Plus a bit of Dionysian hand jiving of course.

The reports are unreal! Super detailed in a Shearer style, I keep expecting Gondwanan Winds or something, here's hoping

He might be able to forecast the surf but can he forecast Braithwaite’s report of the surf?

Typical Steve, talking up egalitarianism but, selling out to the man.

Yeh, I like his writing when it’s written with freedom. Now he’s a corporate stooge who knows what conformist tripe we’ll get.

I suppose he needed a new car and a few new boards.

Stay strong comrade Shearer.

Hey Stevie boy, one of Nietzsche's quotes has been updated:

Good for Steve. Sad, but no surprise to see spittle from the whiners in the bleachers.

Thanks for the concern guys but I'm too ugly to die young.

Condolences to the surfer's loved ones.
