I liked it for the waves, but I found him annoying. In the world I live in going out to find yourself or refocus or whatever cause the shot wasn't in focus is called sulking What's a shot like that worth?
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Accidentally clicked on this, thought it was worth bring back for a rerun as it is such a good shot and surfers of any level can relate to it.foamy wrote:This is Damien Hopgood apparently. I'm pretty sure I've done this manoeuvre. I think it is a very good surfing photo.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
It should have been a cover shot.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
I've got a bit of sympathy for people who are just so full of juice that they find everyday life difficult. Traditionally they would be doing deeds of daring do somewhere.....maybe with more portent than taking a photo in an extreme place in the middle of nowhere.
What's a picture worth these days?
Tough on the family....that's for sure.
Don't know if six months on a yacht would work but he's trying.

Big call for the kids. I'm loath to make judgements on anyone trying to keep their family together though.

So the rebadged Peter Drouyn is claiming KS stole his patent for the wave pool. Brilliant stuff. Drouyn must take the cake for being the most extreme individual to ever be a great surfer. Others have achieved controversy at particular times but Drouyn has managed to keep it up for forty years.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
stripped down my bonzer octafish today after seeing some prime little point surf that it would love. 8 years old this year, most of it's life spent surfing rocky points that destroy boards and it's in really good nick.
I find this argument that pu/pe boards are disposable items compared to epoxy/eps a nonsense. pu cores are way, way, way more resilient than eps. If you have a modicum of strength in the lamination they last beautifully.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
not too mention how much worse epoxy blanks are for the environment ... they never break down.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
You'll upset Steve calling them epoxy blanks.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
I think most people are referring to light weight blanks with pro style glassing. Basically shortboards. Thousands of them pumped out and how long do they last? Not long. Decent foam density and even 6+4 deck and 4oz bottomsteve shearer wrote:stripped down my bonzer octafish today after seeing some prime little point surf that it would love. 8 years old this year, most of it's life spent surfing rocky points that destroy boards and it's in really good nick.

Will last for a good few years. 6x66 and easy 5+. The extra weight has a nice feel too, though so do light boards.
Bonzer fish, damn !

Bobs just a salesman who knows how to milk the hype. Eccentric for sure but still firmly focused on the business of surfboard making.
Drouyn has been refering to himself as a misunderstood genius since the sixties.
I used to be amazed that he reckoned he was too anti establishment. The establishment apparently being Tracks, the Witzigs and Nat Young. Hardly Rupert Murdoch and the Daily Mail. In retrospect he probably was.
