I will, hopefully he'll get a gig with FireWire again. Talented people should stay in their feild.
From what I have heard he won't be going to back there again

So I got to thinking last night...........uh oh.........and I was wondering what constituted a successful amount of waves to catch in an hour. Now Im not talking about the Superbank or Chicama. I ended up reckoning that 6 waves in one hour at a reasonably crowded surf spot would be about all someone of average ability could expect to catch given the variables. That's unless the rides only went for five metres or something.

Six is about right for people in our age group, beanpole.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Yeah, I tended to think that, Trev. If someone was catching say fifteen waves in an hour in crowded surf that would mean by default that someone else wasn't getting many waves at all. If I caught 15 waves in an average surf I would be getting the majority of waves.....and also be pretty stuffed.

Very unboomery of you beany. Surely the correct answer is, all the waves and all your children's waves too

Hmmmm. I surfed at lighter crowd DY yesterday. 2-3ft. 6'2 board. Probably about 10-12 waves in the hour. I ain't flash. 50 years old.

I think the longer heavier boards take a toll on the body after 30-40 mins and reduce wave count. IMHO.

Well that's true gstq. Of course it's cut throat survival of the fittest in Sydney.
This is partly just about the maths of an hour surf in crowded conditions.
Say five sets of three to four waves in an hour. If there's only two rideable waves in a set then that's different.

So Davros would you say that was an average wave count or more than normal?
How long were the rides?

Same. Stunned at how low the crowd was for mid-Saturday morning. My wave count in a session was the highest in a long time.

So part of this maths exercise is looking at the difference someone might make by not taking every fcuking wave that they possibly could in crowded conditions. I think just about everyone's had a surf where some frother can't help themselves from swinging around for everything that comes through while the rest of the pack sits there gnashing their teeth.

In fact there a tool who rides a FireWire minimal at Bondi who is notorious for this. Very often going left on rights just to add a random factor to contemplating claiming priority and taking off.

Top 10% of the surfers at a break get 50% of the waves, next best 40% get 40%, bottom 50% get 10%

I usually have low wave count session with rare exceptions.

Surfed this perfect Point at an offshore QLD Island, boat access only.......3-4ft and absolutely sheet glass, not a drop of water out of place perfection.

3guys out.

I literally couldn't help myself paddling back out........

Haha, I'm usually in that second category, rarely in the top 10%, but... since swapping to McCoys I think I've more than doubled my chances of being in the top 10%*, not by ability but by board choice.... loving it!

*Not an absolute ability measure, its just the actual surfers at a spot for a particular session.
