Let me unpack another package for you. Mainstream Media couldn’t give a Rats Arse about surfing. They prefer to present it as a girls sport when they do. They score some brownie points for that and it feeds into the Puberty Blues Theme. Girls fighting gender stereotypes. That’s unless it’s Stunt Man stuff where they can roll their eyes and go “Those Guys Are Crazy to surf waves that Size.”
Slater would be one of the few names they know.

What part of "the surf media" do you fail to comprehend ?

Anyway, its kind of pointless trying to discuss anything when you want to continually take over the room and shout the first though that come into your head.
The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.

Who said anything about surf media except you. Let me tie that up with a little bow and tuck it in to your school bag so you don’t lose it. Anyway you can ask our resident representative of the surf media.

I don't know why all the smoke is blowing from Kelly's direction, surely its Medina who's the one with the most to lose if he is indeed unvaccinated and can't compete in the Oz leg ... he's actually in with a chance of winning the title, old baldy on the other hand is yesterdays newspaper wrapped around some Victorians flake and potato cakes.
Yeah, but Slater is known way outside the realms of surfing.
Medina has 9.5m insta followers.
Not in Australia he doesn’t.
Let me try and unwrap this for you ... the surf media, and to a lesser degree the mainstream media have been banging on about old baldy maybe not being able to come out and compete in the Australian leg of the world tour, thus stymieing his chances of a 12th title. Medina on the other hand, has been relegated to a footnote in the discussion.

Fact 1: Kelly Slater isn't going to win a 12th title. Its not going to happen.

Fact 2: Gabriel Medina has more chance of winning another world title than most of the WSL surfers. You'd be a poor judge to not have him in the top 5 at years end.

Fact 3: Medina won the world tile last year, so he's the reining world champ.

So it stands to reason that the discussion should be around whether the current world number one will be able to compete in Australia.

Sure mention Kelly, he is the Goat after all, he's even started acting like one, but he's far from relevant.
I think that is true.

Medina, unlike Slater though, has very wisely kept his head down and not made his views known or himself a target.

Unlike old Baldy who has been out and proud with his anti-vax views.

Offy’s local. I’d probably pop some booties on.

My son just got back from surfing the undeveloped island just south. Can only get there by boat. Icy. Said it was fun. I'd rather be in Mexico.

Yep, when your tongue can get stuck to a sign, I’m not surfing.

Watched some surf footage of Delaware. I reckon the Great Lakes would provide more rideable surf.

Just saw an ad for the Pipe Masters. Starts in a couple of days. Didn’t even know it was on. Think the WSL will struggle with interest this year.

And Medina is out. Taking some time away from competition. That won’t help.
