They aren’t getting it wrong iggy. Steve just doesn’t understand what it’s trying to tell him. Think of steve as a belligerent British tourist furiously jabbing Spiros in the chest because he won’t stop babbling nonsense at him. I think steve may also believe that each forecast is written by an actual person rather than a fixed algorithm that spews out numbers based on universally available buoy data

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

In the future Magic Seaweed will be featured on the Internet version of Antiques Roadshow

“Oooo isn’t it quaint,” sighs Robot Fiona Bruce

Robot Expert Guy in Vaguely Down at Heel jacket rubs his robot chin and says, “Well of course it is a long time since anyone used anything like this. But that’s never stopped people paying over the odds. Two thousand pounds perhaps”

Crowd stifles any display of emotion

Some uni student did that a few years back.

It didn't end well.
So people can vote on the truth or falsity of a statement. The majority determines whether it is true or false.

People have IDs. Over time you identify who gets it right more often. The votes from these people are ranked and weighted according to ranking. As time goes on some of these people slowly get ranked higher and higher (or relegated).

Rankings are within subject areas.

The main use of the system is to identify those who get it "right" most often in a subject area. Once you hit a certain ranking you would be paid for your successful votes. A coterie of well paid experts would develop in the various subject areas. "You" can interview these people and randomly assess and inspect their votes and adjust their rankings if required. These would become the new judges of the internet - the ever changing endgame of this process.

I'm guessing that If Mark Zuckerberg implemented it the user base would be in the billions with a short period

There's a bunch of websites that do that, but not in the surf space. Citizen journalist stuff, scientific forums etc.
They're almost all shit.

Godsave comes out of the gates like a greyhound dosed with cobalt chasing a wounded rabbit when any impression is broadcast which paints the UK surfer as a bumbling, incompetent noob.

Thats why he's so vociferously defending Magic Seaweed here, as a homegrown UK product.

It's a tribal defence, not a scientific one.

Which is fine.

I forget steve, is the straw man/ad hominem stage the one just before the acceptance and apology stage or do we have a couple more to go?

You tell me, you opened your hand playing that card.
Which I think only confirms my impression posted above.

it's a kind of reverse colonial inferiority complex.

I've been patiently trying to explain scientifically why Magic Seaweed is crazier than a cracked Swiss cuckoo clock.

I drove this guy to the airport today....Cornwall surfer with a Firewire Machado Go Fish.....he had some funny things to say about Snowdonia......kept calling the waves there "7 foot".

Surely we can stand on common ground and condemn Magic Seaweed for spreading this ?

You’re either trolling me - in which case, well played, hook line and sinker etc etc - or you’re wilfully not hearing my explanation of their forecasts. ‘Scientifically’ would be you carefully documenting the swell as recorded by the Byron buoy and comparing it to the swell forecast for Lennox head and noting the actual wave height at Ballina compared to the forecast. If they differ wildly then I will be happy to concede that you are right. What ‘scientifically’ isn’t is unverified assertions about unpublished research based on false assumptions, backed up by a single (probably apocryphal) anecdote

Can I just say Magic Seaweed got all the details right for the swell when I hit it up to Crescent a few weeks ago. Spot on.....except they gave it a one to two star rating for the place. It was if not prime very close to.

Seven feet rocks.

Do you even know where the Byron Buoy is Godsave and what it measures?

Once more, their report is for Lennox Head, not Byron Buoy.
They are (supposedly) forecasting breaking waves in feet. Not buoy readings.

This is for both Ballina and Lennox Head.

Update: Tomorrow forecast for Lennox is 6.5ft dropping to 5.5ft.
Forecast for Ballina: 3.4ft.

I don't think you know enough Godsave to even realise how ridiculous this is.
