The main thing for quite a few seemed more psychological than physical, like they had never had a real injury before and weren't quite ready for the longer term challenge of freeing yourself from the thought of what had been done to you.
Yeah, really interesting point about the psychological than physical re injury, it can really get to you.

Thanks Nick, that's a relief. Not that it's any time soon, but it's inevitable.

Get on the mal mate, you are cooked. Slow to the feet, gentle on the hips. Couple of potential head dips! Sell me the new stick?

I remember some wheelchair xylophonist getting all macho about how he liked to smash absolutely heaps of Weetbix before a hard day's roofing

Jeez, you've gone soft, Wyre. There was a time when you would've just said, Give me your stick. I've got some calipers for you.

aj, when I first discovered my shoulder condition as being osteoarthritic, unclethirsty was active herein. He'd had a hip replacement and encouraged me down the surgical route sooner rather than later

Still haven't even had a cleanout and wasted 2 more NSAIDS scripts due to expiry - same as about a year ago when NC challenged my rationale for sometimes dropping 1 prior to surfing

I'm at the point where I need a new referral though

Got an appointment next week.

You know what shits me? I'm assuming that you answered, No, AJ, I don't know what shits you. Please tell me.

Okay swvic, thanks for asking.

As soon as you ramp up the exercise - surfing, cycling, walking - everything starts to fcuking hurt as the cracks are revealed which makes you pull back from the exercise.

That, my dear swvic, is what shits me.

Acetylene? Didn't know they did any welding during hip replacement surgery.

Good on you uncle, meds and injuries can really cripple you mentally.

So I used the million dollar wetsuit!

I went down to do an iron session with the hot shot squad and there were some big bluebottles lurking. It just seemed as if the fates were instructing me to try out this super suit.

So out it came and got a caning through two M-shape irons, board-ski-swim and swim-ski-board.

This is a lot more rigorous than anything the suit would face during a surf. Any other suit I own would have been just too restrictive to allow any pace. This thing, however, clung to me like I imagine a young Ursula Andress would have clung to me if I'd had to swim out and rescue her in a rip at the age of 25.

Back then I'd have swum swiftly yet langourously to Ursula and whispered softly to her as she clung to me, "It's OK baby, nothing bad's gonna happen to you when I've got ya." Of course omitting to mention the drugs and the anal sex, and the other assorted humiliations that lay in her near future etc

This time, encouraged by the sense of being encased in the most expensive wetsuit in the world, I also swam swiftly but not very langourously. At one point, heading out to the cans, I actually found myself out ahead of the pack! This pack included four Nutri Grain racers and the legendary Ky Hurst, the greatest surf swimmer ever to have lived. Good God! I thought, this suit really is magical! Then I remembered I was in a rip and they weren't.

I'm not sure what's more dreamy, beating Ky in a surf swim, or heading out to the cans...I was still thinking about Ursula at that point and had a different set of cans in mind.
