Re: Just general surfing stuff
maybe 4-6ft....that feels a generous assessment....with a helluva lot of windswell contamination.
maybe a 30 minute paddle out, thirty minutes paddling into the wind and current on the back button before I got a set wave....I didn't really want it but my mate said go....I was under the lip and I reckon he thought it would be hilarious if I got pitched. It was a big burger which I rode down past the hut.
I felt slaughtered from sleep deprivation and came in.
it really was very soft, and burgery.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
The surf has dropped right off, back to a burgery high tide 3-4ft.
Magic Seaweed is saying it's 15 foot right now and has awarded it 5 stars.
Fifteen Feet.
Do we need to go on Godsave?
Or have we firmly established that despite some proper chops (Tony Butt) Magic Seaweed is fcuking hopeless here.
Fifteen fuckking feet!
Is there a Universe where people believe this caca?

I reckon swellnet gets it right more often than other sites. It’s a notch up on coastalwatch, and makes most other sites look a little embarrassing. The east coast of Australia must be particularly difficult to pin down, with the mix of different swell sources and weird refracted south swells. Can’t see any other offshore based site making a fair go of it compared to SN or CW here

Yes but Steve, what I wanna know is whether a swell Event that is talked up on Magicseaweed has more legitimacy than if it came from Swellnet or Coastwatch?
It seemed to be a factor in the woe to go conversation but alas, was inaccurate

Prolly better for rain than swell though, especially up your way.steve shearer wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 5:10 pmreally interesting NE infeed pattern progged.

well the swell pushed pretty hard down here this late arvo, encouraged by the rising tide, it really went Bang a bit. Shit wind though.Hatchnam wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 4:21 pmI reckon swellnet gets it right more often than other sites. Reckon there might be at least one good follow up pulse off the wind band forming near SNZ around maybe Thursday. I totally hope so, I was getting into a certain spot a lot that likes that angle before the Flat Spell hit.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
you'll get that pulse a lot more than up here....thats a really weird area for a fetch...back against the grain of the typical westerly flow down there.
I have to file this S swell under H for hoax ....again.
The problem: as has been almost all winter, the low raced too quickly through the swell window and the fetch was severely duration limited.
Hasn't been a single low all winter that has set-up shop or even been slow moving in the Tasman.....that really gives the fetch time to work on an active sea state.

Steve. Once again, the msw Lennox forecast is for the swell on your nearest buoy. It tells you their guess for swell height and period and also swell direction. This is verifiable quite easily from actual buoy readings. I don’t know why it has a Lennox forecast that isn’t directly relevant to the actual spot. To look more comprehensive than it actually is perhaps? Who knows. The fact is though, it’s just a 60km out to sea or whatever swell forecast. Getting back to a question I asked about 100 years ago, if their swell forecasts - as verifiable by the buoys - are indeed accurate, does this information not have some value to the seasoned surf forecaster? Isn’t it doing at least some of the legwork for you?

Oh and the pin in the map on their spot guide for ballina is by north wall, so I think you can assume they’re forecasting for there if you still want to check their breaking wave height accuracy

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

To summarise something that could have a thousand words written on it; rarely and barely.godsavethequeen wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 11:59 pmThe fact is though, it’s just a 60km out to sea or whatever swell forecast. The NSW buoy array have some use for tracking S swells as they propagate up the coast but they have a very limited use for determining actual wave heights for a whole range of reasons. \
Primarily, and in the case yesterday; massive amounts of windswell contamination.
I also contest whether the Lennox surf forecast gives an accurate reflection of Byron Buoy readings, if that is what they are trying to do as you suggest (god knows why).
