Re Nick's post ^^; and the fin plugs push through the deck. Might still have pop forward, but the back end is gunna kill that board anyway. Sad end to one of my all time magics - a Maurice Cole ATM

Can you tell me why they go brown when they are left in the sun?Nick Carroll wrote: ↑Mon Jun 25, 2018 5:37 pmFibreglass is chemically inert. Sunlight does not rot it. It also does not break down in landfill. Fibreglass is Evil!!!
Steve may not have had a lived experience of a PU/PE board breaking down over time but I sure the hell have, numerous times. The deck and tail gets kicked down and the foam fractures, the resin goes brittle and cracks, the board slowly leaks even through very small cracks that only a lunatic would try to fix. Eventually the flex in the board becomes soggy and it loses all its performance edge.
I take care of my boards now and don't tend to surf any one board that much but the ones I have surfed a shit load in recent years have all done something similar. They usually end up creasing out of sheer exhaustion.
All plastic leeches the "plastic" bit out of the plastic material. That's why it becomes brittle and cracks. Exposure to sunlight speeds up this process.
Why do people paint just about every other fibreglass craft?
I'm not talking about fibreglass matting here.
Tuflite boards are painted.
The blank may collapse from UV and heat before the laminate but they all deteriorate.
By all means leave your boards out in the sun this summer and get back to me.

I just found tuflite boards tended to be a bit more rash inducing.

Might be your ethanol levels leaking out your pores chemically reacting to epoxy paint that’s giving you hives

Oh, fcuk, here I am procrastinating again
How so? You lie down on wax when you paddle. I'm all for education, for in this climate, I'm very rarely without some rubber. Medium to long term I think of moving to thermally friendlier waters and I need to be aware of the negatives

Thanks for the exchange rate info beany. Very useful. The contest was in SA, by the way, so the cheques are in Rand
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Are the rand and the rupiah much different now?
