Can you surf anything you want? Someone should break out a fun fish for the hell of it.
one of cranked's 7'8" tufflites would be the go.
Imagine a tuflite world tour.
that would fly. in ankle deep water over live reef.

I moved from down your way to Sydney 20 odd years ago. You adapt very quickly, you've got no choice. Crowds are just a part of the deal up here.Rustt wrote:From my perspective my opinion doesn't really carry any weight, Ive never surfed Queensland or Sydney, it sounds depressing, but you guys seem to have adapted

have you ever been outside Victoria Russt?

Actually you'd love his area Steve. Stacks of reefs open to some serious, uncrowded waves. Plenty of rock platforms to fish off. A good chance to get washed away into the abyss whether you're surfing or fishing. Next stop Antartica.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
It's possible to make decent waves, it's just big $$$, so councils won't pay unless the primary objective is protection of prime real estate or river training.
And it doesn't work so well on sand or in places with big tidal ranges.
The best way to create waves is by putting something offshore to break up the straight lines.
No increased liability, potential for fishing and diving improvements. Could even partner with the rec fishing grants process.

Haha, I'm with russt. Pretty sure I know of the spots he mentioned a couple of pages back. Gets crowded in that region in summer, but post Easter it's consistent uncrowded quality for months on end.
As for artificial, I've always wondered whether just putting in something like the above mentioned domes would work wonders to draw a peak on an otherwise dead straight closeout beachie

I've attended a coastal conference where this was discussed....has it ever been put into practice?alakaboo wrote:

Andy Pitt's stuff?
They've done a sand slug at Cronulla, but didn't really monitor it properly and it wasn't a big enough sand dump.
There are plans to do something similar, but 10x bigger on the Gold Coast. They need $5+ mill.
There was a plan to use a warship off the Goldy, but it turned out to be Russian built and chock full of contaminants.

I always thought a half dozen train carriages filled with concrete and dumped 200 meters out in the middle of bondi would create some nice a frames in big south awell.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
It wasn't a contained slug, as boo notes, it was just dredge spoil that they dumped in deeper water, after Andy Pitt's clever suggestion. It was dumped just beyond the breaking wave line. Was intended to help break up the swell to enable natural sand regeneration on the shore line where the beach was eroded back the the hardstand. Not sure how successful it's been. Was some talk of some good waves when it was first installed. No doubt the sand has moved since then.alakaboo wrote:Andy Pitt's stuff?
