So I'm really not too sure where I fit into all of this. Now that you mention it, I'm overcome with anxiety and have a huge identity crisis on hands. Can I be in the core club? Or should I become a hipster? Or should I get a pair of okanui boardshorts and be done with it.
Now THAT'S the kind of shit I'm talking about Hatchy!

Like I am pretty goddam bad in this area myself

- casual refs to surfing big Sunset without a legrope
- "ten channel pintail"
- so many famous surfing friends I don't even talk about 'em
- entire thread full of "advice" that I've given up on giving

jesus if I am wrecking anyone it's me

btw that's a great point shearer made about surfing being in fact a communal activity, I grew up as a surfer in just such a situation (group of kids who've surfe tigether all our lives pretty much) so I am culturally biased toward that thought, but I've always thought Severson's famous quote about "a man being along with his thoughts" wasn't really the half of it.

I was thinking for some of us here, me included "I see said the blind man picking up his hammer and saw" But you could say that about a lot of things In life.

Core factor 1/10. The 1 comes from rating myself.

I interpreted it as shearer preparing the ground for a solemn defence of knee high party waves in Byron now that he's too scared of sharks to surf anywhere more meaningful. Communality? Who the fcuk wants that? L'enfer c'est les autres and all that

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

Anyway back to the surfing. Watched a couple of hours of the national board riders comp over the weekend. Jeez Steph Gilmore leaves the rest of the women and some lads in her wake. Nathan Hedge is still good to watch and even though Ace Buchanan scored large in the final Parko still looks like the quality garment on the rack. Avoca a strong team with Wilko and Ace. It was fun to see the pros back in a team sport.

I have eight boards, 7 by the same shaper and with no personal input whatsoever, except "this is what I would like it to do" and my Neal Purchase single fin from 79 ,I think the biggest claim I've made is a big grin. I've blown a few nest eggs on the surfing addiction, but I'm a loner so I can't be in the core club. I haven't read a surf mag in 20 years and have no idea who is on the tour.
I think most of the posters on here are core surfers, it's part of the obbsession.

I have no problem admitting I enjoy my surfing so much I'm happy to let out a hoot or a holler as I pull off the end of a really good wave.
And fcuk anyone who has a problem with that.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

this is a true story. and it happened again just this morning as was meandering down to the waterline to surf one-foot slop on a 9'3" 'performance' log.

you know how after elvis died, people all over the world kept swearing black n blue that they kept seeing him? from bolivia to denmark and in everywhere between, dead elvis's as far as the eye could see!

Still one of the great claims, and who would deny its righteousness?
