John John started claiming last year and won a world title for his efforts.
Who was the last non-claimer to win a title?
(Allowed to have the occasional heat of the moment unbelievable barrel claim)
Does parko claim much?

OK, I get it, so how about the scoring for a claim, ranges from -10 to +10 to recognise the unique potential of this category to completely screw your reputation as well as to enhance it.Nick Carroll wrote:I was seeing it as very much a plus. But the big points come from the disguised claim - the verbal version of Lopez's nose-wipe tube exit claim.steve shearer wrote:I'm confused, I thought Carroll was positing claiming as a virtue to score points, are you seeing it as a vice Cranked?
Like when people claim a session, you know, "I drove down the coast for two hours and just when I was about to turn back came across this sick 4' rip bowl, got it over the top of the tide with two others, we were swapping waves and laughing, I was stoked in the new triple twinzer, really felt good in the top turns and sliding cutties"
That shit is points worthy. The person is telling you, really, "I am core AF"

Re: Just general surfing stuff
does anyone here remember the last time they claimed a wave, for real, in everyday life?
Iggs, you must have claimed one of those rip bowls down south on the new twinny, surely?

If grinning is a claim, I do it all the time.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Self hooting is the king of all claims
I haven't seen a full on claim in Sydney for a very long time
Is a nonchalant flick out a claim after a good wave? Got to be one of the biggest right?

I don't mind Parkos claims as it's usually at the end of something mind blowingLegion wrote:Yeah and it's ugly as sin. It feels arrogant from Parko.buddy wrote:Does parko claim much?

he wipes his nose and drops his head onto his chest as if he'd just delivered a shakespearean soliqoquy and holds that position very theatrically.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
So further on this. Shearer will know what I am talking about when I say that as a person who writes a lot, often for a living, I am very alert to the messages people send when they write stuff.
Like if someone writes on a semi controversial surfing subject, "I fcuken don't care what people think of me", you can be deeply certain that they give a massive fcuk about what you think of them.
This claiming gig, indeed the whole idea of Hardcore RS Surfer Of The Year, is based on that - the subtext. What is it about something someone writes that sets off your Core Radar, or if we must, your Coredar?

Re: Just general surfing stuff
Nick's gonna start outing us. I can't stand the pressure. Ok, I don't surf. I'm actually a 48yo divorced mother of 4 who lives in Plumpton.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Aaah, so getting into subtext, when NC writes Hardcore RS Surfer Of The Year, he really means Biggest Wanker in the RS Surfing threads.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
I never claim as I never really get waves or do anything with them worth claiming to be honest.
If I get a good wave and do ok on it my mates will tease me and I will try and surpress the raging fccxkn smile bursting to get out.
Is there a difference between claiming and letting out a huge outpouring of stoke?
