They got skunked, as you normally will when you go to Agnes.

Mrs Wyre and I bought a Ford Escort panel van in Darwin to drive to Sydney (25 yrs ago), which was pretty nuts. It had a surfboard with it, which was useless for ages obviously- we went right through the desert, inland Qld and up to Cape Trib and then slowly cruised down.

Someone saw the board up near Cairns and mentioned the fact that Agnes Waters was the first spot where the reef ended and surf could be found.

Imagine my surprise to rock up there and find waves much like this. I was pretty green to surfing and just assumed it was like that all the time!

The feeling of being able to swim and surf after a month of wet season crocodile/jelly fish denial was a great moment that still stays with me.

Awesome spot.

oh and polebean if there ever was a time to go to Crescent Head (and I'm not saying there ever was beyond about 1966), nows the fucken time cobber.

Lennox Heads, Angourie, Crescent ... all places where the romance is still alive, and there is a defined pecking order.

Crescent is being positioned as the new Byron, so a surfcam is part of the essential infrastructure that modern hipster surfers expect.
