New material for surfboard bottom

Post by sickpig » Thu Jan 22, 2015 3:19 pm

Read this article and immediately thought how that could/would work on the bottom of surfboard or snowboard - potential endless possibilities - love to hear the forums thoughts?

This is the link to the article 3-)

that would make a faster board, right? i spend enough of my time as it is having to do cutbacks just to make sure i don't outrun the wave. this would just make it worse.

Would it benefit big wave surfing or tow-in? if there's increased speed, due to less resistance then could you reduce volume? would this also make make boards more manoeuvrable generally, also requiring less paddle power?

good point. anything that encourages tow-in surfing and also allows piss-weak paddlers to catch more waves has to be good for surfing.

The Yanks will probably be coating their next Americas Cup entrant with it too.

Disappointed with the angle of the droppings. Vertical onto horizontal I'd like to see

Directional stability for surfboards, yachts, etc. might be a difficult proposition. Fins can only do so much. With such a hydrophobic surface, the fin (or fin cluster) might amount to the pivot point with everything else being out of any real control. Of course I don't really have any fcuken idea. Thoughts of a physicist would be good. daryl?
