i'd be a fool not to go to lakeys -- man it looks good. the gf has been so over researching this thing i' worried there will be no decisions made. i'm tempted to just go on a trip when passing through the west coast of the US with a bunch of kneelos there. maybe central america or baja.

Bobby, as a self confessed kook, with no money, you have a gf shouting you an o/s surfing trip - you must have a knob and a half or she is 20 stone but good luck to you
As opposed to dreaming, is it only me that thinks I would never go back to Indo if it didn't have waves ?

Re: Indo...is it worth it
My last trip I didn't surf at all.
Re: Indo...is it worth it
True dat. Dont stay too long... Can feel pretty hemmed in after a while. There was a bit of a flat spell when I went which meant lots of annoying bogans getting drunk all day.el rancho wrote:lakeys is good but the vibe gets pretty intense in that whole jointBobby Dazzler wrote:i'd be a fool not to go to lakeys -- man it looks good. the gf has been so over researching this thing i' worried there will be no decisions made. i'm tempted to just go on a trip when passing through the west coast of the US with a bunch of kneelos there. maybe central america or baja.

Seal rocks is fine for a few days glamping.
Indo is a terrific cultural experience regardless of the surf.
( well for some anyway)
And you'd get better drugs and the standard of dance music there has improved I gather.

Re: Indo...is it worth it
I could easy spend six months over there without surfing. The fact that there's waves is just the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned but hey that's not everyone's cup of tea for sure.
First time 1982 I went there it was the last place I'd been to in SE Asia. I ran into this group that was basically centred around a couple who had planned to go around the world on their honeymoon with a few friends. The groom who was a bearded north coast type guy was so freaked out by Bali he said they had decided to can the whole trip and go home
Every time I've been there including that time people have told me it stuffed.

Re: Indo...is it worth it
yeah, indonesia is a great place to visit. no need to convince of that. i was just wondering if the waves might be out of my range...but that all seems fine. so no probs.
i've been to indonesia quite a few times. my sister lived in sumatra for ten years, my cousin lives in bali. those trips were a break from australia, which meant a break from surfing. so i never took a board.
every summer holidays at uni, i'd hit up the student council, tell them i was being evicted from my house and had no bond etc. they would give my a $2000 loan, i'd disappear to south east asia for three months. when i returned, i'd enrol at uni and my ausstudy was back paid to jan 1. that was enough to pay off the student loan and place $100 on a horse at randwick (a mate wrote the racing column for the SMH in those days).
ah, the joys of youth!

With that kind of ingenuity you can't go wrong BD. I'm surprised you've never taken a board.

Re: Indo...is it worth it
This thread just inspired a trip to Indo.
I can go to seal rocks anytime.
I'll be in seminyak with all the semi bogans. Hopefully there are some small days in September for me to get a wave in.
Did a trip to canggu last time.

Gee whiz BD. My student Union fees went on surf free trips to Indo. Always wondered what they did with that money.
