Re: Get this!
Here are the templates, they all look good to me. They'll all take tubercles well.

Re: Get this!
Almost correct. The Tas tank is a great facility , not "fancy" , but cutting edge .....and I have a quiver of fins that I use for my own boards that I'm more than happy with.....and most of my customers, and people that I know, also have more than enough experience and knowledge to have extensive quivers of fins and fin templates for their own needs . Anything new gets my interest , as it does with most people.Roy_Stewart wrote:I think that what kayu was trying to say previously is that he doesn't need fancy tank testing in order to evaluate a fin, he can do it just by riding it... a radical concept to be sure...

Took this picture of a whale out the front. It appears that she uses Roys BLEF template and doesn't mind showing them off.
When it gets to this level of self important stupidity I lose interest.

Re: Get this!
I reckon number 30 and those super upright D shaped ones (pictured above already made with tubercules) would be the money set for quads. Get them in similar fin area and dimensions to the FCS K2.1 and you're laughing (now called the FCS V2 I think).
Looking forward to seeing the results of the experiments!

Re: Get this!
Yeah #30 is pretty clean looking, #27 is already under way though so we'll do that one first.
The upright spitfires with bumpy leading edge we have as side fins in 2.5", 3.5", 4.25" and 4.5" with cant options at 4 and 8 degrees for futures and the usual 5 and 9 degrees for fcs. We also have some higher aspect spitfire side fins with no cutaway( made for a quad setup) at 5.25" shown below. Other sizes can be done.

Re: Get this!
I thought about this and tried it out a couple more times in the pool. A few research assistants were keen to help out, too: They learned more about hydrodynamics in one hour than school will ever teach them. I now think that the "figure-8 test" measures drag at high angle of attack. It also measures how high the AOA can get before the fin stalls.damo666 wrote:Why does a fin that requires the least amount of force make it better?MrMik wrote: then make it move in the tightest possible figure-8 pattern, as fast as possible, while using the least amount of force.
....I might be wrong, but I think this test could reflect how well a fin will do for short-arc surfing and/or pivoting.
The Wavegrinder fin in the photo above produces far less drag in this test than other fins.
Steve, have you had a chance to try the Gull-whale fin in these crappy spring waves?

Mik, I have not. It's been so crap that I haven't.
But I'm literally just about to go now with the fin in a 6'4" slabby board. It's clean 1ft runners.

Re: Get this!
This sounds like a ride report by someone who is not familiar with the Original Gullwing fin. It does therefore not support the claim that the BLEF improves the Gullwing fin.Roy_Stewart wrote:25% off today for Cyber Monday..

It's good the rider reports in detail about the conditions, but all information about the board used is lacking.

Re: Get this!
Looks great Roy!
Any chance of some smaller cut-away side fins being made in FCS? The board I have in mind is a 5'9 twinzer that is currently riding Shapers BA-Xtra in the small lead fins. They are 2.9" depth, 3" base, small side-bites normally made for 2+1's.
I reckon one of those cutaway side fins in 3-3.5" could do well? Seems like you could slightly increase fin area with your fins compared to a traditional fin and not lose responsiveness?

Re: Get this!
Thanks, yes the 3.5"s should do very well and they don't have much more area than your current set.The area is compact i.e. no fin rake so they should be very responsive in a twinzer setup. The bumpy Leading Edge is ideal for the front set as the front fins have to handle the extremes of flow changes.
We already do FCS tabs for all the side and trailing fins too.

Re: Get this!
Roy, what size are the spitfire large 'thruster' set (you may have answered this already but I'm not going to read through the whole thread). The size isn't on your webpage. Are they roughly 'equivalent' (if that is even the right term) to M5 size?
I'm 80kg with a 7ft4 minimal - don't want to go single fin (doesn't have a fin box anyway, just plugs). The medium set look too small
any chance of extending the discount, its still Monday somewhere (possibly...)

Re: Get this!
The M5's are 0.7mm taller than the Spitfires and have a similar base length ( due to the difference in planshape the base length isn't directly comparable).
The centre of area on the M5's is a bit further back, moving it forward a bit with the spitfires should be fine though.
I've extended the discount until the 9th of December.
