Jetstar to Bali

Post by brownhornet » Mon Sep 08, 2014 12:47 pm

Any advice?
I see they have a 190cm limit which is fine for my boards but I have heard of some people experiencing issues.

My plan is 2 boards both under 190. Board cover is about 218cm.
Is this going to present an issue?
Can you buy additional baggage to counter for the length issue of the bag.
Even better I cannot find a phone number that gets me anything other than an automated reply. Love to be able to chat to someone.

PS already booked! Ouch

Appreciate any advice

Don't expect it would but you could always fold and tape the nose of the board bag if your worried to technically shorten the length.

Remember reading about Richard Harvey being knocked back on a board. He had shaped it to take to an anniversary of being first to surf Padang Padang.
A bit rough.

Hmm budget flights. That's what you get when you try to book 10 days out. Normally would just pay more for Garuda but no chance of flights when I wanted them. Teach me.I hope all goes well. Seems to just be longer boards that are the issue but might very well need to tape the nose back on the cover given I'm putting a 6'2 into a 7'6 bag.

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully didn't jinx myself!

Where are you flying from? The longer haul direct flights (Melb / Syd to Denpasar) with Jetstar don't have the 190cm limit. The 190cm restriction is only inplace if you are taking a connecting domestic Jetstar flight or if the flight to Denpasar is a shorter one (perhaps from Darwin or Perth?). The last time I checked the limit was imposed because of the size of the storage cages used in the A320s.

Lost Fongs,
Are you saying I won't get my boards on the flight? Flying a 787 Dreamliner both ways. Syd to Den and Dep to Bris return. Spoken to a few people who have inferred that longer boards up to 2.7m are not an issue. As I said try getting through to Jetstar on the phone. Near impossible so fingers crossed. all luggage is under 20kg packed and boards are 6'2 so I reckon I can easily get the boards there. A bit freaked out as someone I spoke to said they were denied. I'm hoping it was on a much longer board. As I said fingers crossed.

Are you coming back to Sydney via Bris? That's where people get caught if the connecting flight to Sydney is a smaller plane.
I've just come back from Bali, we were booked on a 787 dreamliner for the flight over, then they changed it at the last minute to a A330.
Either way you'll be right with the boards you have, even on a A320 which is the one with the restrictive length limit.

Forget about getting any sense out of any cnut on the phone with Jetstar, waste of time and will only stress you out.
I flew out of Perth to Jakarta last year on the A320 with a 7' board and it wasn't a problem, same coming back and I couldn't see anything at the check-in counters that could be used to even measure a board.
Have a good trip.
