Gotta watch out for them "Tube Monsters" as well!

That was a huge wipeout for the local wildcard. I hope he's not too seriously hurt.

yeah seemed a bit slow... maybe just the fact i was watching on the webcast in between work and missed a bit. Didnt seem many high scoring rides and most bombs going unridden.

The goofy footers are impressive with those hands free drops. Hedge was extraordinary!
The backside left hand tiller style is impressive but those face to face toes scrunched in, pulling into those viscous slabs was just faaarkin' terrifying.

as noted in a Swellnet comment thread...
Interesting recent interview by Forbes with ZoSea CEO Paul Speaker.
A 6:36 min video.

annotation: that is, interesting if you find short corporatespeak discussions about marketing, content and digital platforms interesting.

Interesting ...

Paul and the Forbes reporter failed to mention that the year in which they claimed to have had $12million in income (a pretty wacky figure in itself*) and a $2m operating profit was 2013: the year BEFORE ZoSea started running things.

*why is this wacky? Well: what is income? Is it the cost of events including prize money, operating costs and the like? In that case, the WCT's "income" for 2013, given 10 mens and six womens WCT events, the men's costing around $2.5mil a pop and the girls about $600,000, the income would have been more like $28.5 million. Is it the sanctioning fees levied by the ASP? $75 grand a mens and $25 grand a womens adds up to less than a million dollars. Does it include the WCT entry fees? 36 guys at about $4g each plus 17 girls at about $1500 each adds up to about $150,000.

Maybe if you eliminated the event operating costs (which were al born by the franchisees) but included all the prize money (which has to be paid to the surfers through the ASP and thus I guess would count as "income") of all the WCT and WQS events, plus all the entry fees and sanction fees for all pro surfing events under the ASP banner, you might start groping toward this mysterious figure, but even then you'd still probably be a couple of million short of $12m in 2013.

I want to like the new team, the events are running well and all that, and god knows the surfers are still pretty happy, but almost nothing they say in public - especially about the money - adds up.
