Doesn't matter what it is like you know it will look like it's pumping on the 20 seconds of news footage just like Bells.

JBay puzzles me. It seems to be one of the great waves, yet you don't seem to see many of the international surfing jetset spending much time there.
Is it not one of the great waves?
Is it not traveller friendly?
Is it too cold?
Is it unfashionable, or not film friendly?
Does it not barrel enough?

Anybody surfed it, or have any general thoughts on the spot?

Secondary thoughts.
Hopefully, they get a great swell. One would expect the usual point wave stars to perform well. Jordy, Parko, Mick, Taj.
I will be interested to see how Adriano de Souza goes. I think he might go very well.

foamy there are about 700 waves in Indo that are better than JBay

It is a great surf spot but its great filming days were back in 1978 (see "Fantasea" by Greg Huglin with Fitzy and a cast of 20 or so doing all those fades and soul arches to barrels they did back then)

Compared with, err, Desert Point, G-Land, Rifles, Telescopes, Macaronis/Greenbush/E-Bay, NoKandui blah blah blah into infinity, why would ya go somewhere cold, inconsistent and crowded with a very solid local crew, a down-the-line racecourse and the odd barrel on the right day?

Thanks Nick
Bloody goofyfoots. Back in the day, if someone said about 9 of the best 10 waves in the world would be lefts, they would have been laughed out of the bar, mocked in the street, ridiculed in the lineup.
But now, we, the correct-footed, have to listen to their endless Indo barrel stories. It's sickening.
And there are people who believe there is a just God!!

Yeah but many of those waves are SO GOOD you can get barrelled BACKHAND. For minutes!

Do you ever see many of the international surfing jetset outside the tropics?

And fair enough

Looks like they'll have some swell on Day 1 (July 10th). After that she's all over red rover based on the latest forecasts!!! They shoulda swapped the JBay and Fiji events around IMO. Jbay pumped whilst Fiji was on. Current Fiji forecast certainly looks contestable for the JBay comp dates too!!!!

please see me in the controversy thread.

I've always thought Burleigh on its day is better than lennox on its day.

discuss.

It's a fair argument.

Burleigh is more prone to wide sandbars and Lennox holds bigger, way bigger.

But when the Burleigh sandbar is hugging the Point it's as hollow a wave as you can get.

Both shitt all over Jagga bagga.

Where does Anga's fit in here?

Lennox for sure, much holds much, much bigger. Burleigh can break top-to-bottom at 4-6ft for 300 metres ... and angourie is somewhere in between... Noosa late 80's -- only due to stuff all crowd -- probably has them all trumped.

forget the book comp, we need to rank australian point breaks and find the best point in australia.

I've always thought Angas was very over-rated, and I know point break maestro Thorton Fallander shares that opinion.

it should hold ironic weight: he lives at Angas.

it's a fish bowl wave.

Yep, i think J-Bays aura in the 70's was only really justified from the combination of having Shaun and then Pottz, and that 94.38% of the waves NC mentions not having been "discovered". The world surfing map has expanded materially since the JBay days...

Spent alot of time in J/bay , 2 winters mid eighties months in 90 surfed 7 weeks straight between 4 and 12 ft. Had some of the longest barrels of my life.

Went back a few years ago, it's not the same. to much sand and breaks wide with any size, The locals reckon it's been like that for years, best size these days is 2 to 3ft.
