The Morning of the Earth DVD

Post by cosmicrich » Wed Jun 25, 2014 9:12 pm

I recently managed to get a DVD of 'The Morning of the Earth' (the Deluxe edition with the little hardback book) The film itself is fantastic along with the soundtrack, but the DVD transfer looks pretty ropey. I know that Alby Falzon has done a number of DVD releases and there is a newer version (40th Anniversary). Does anyone know whether the newer DVD has a different/improved/restored transfer?

Thanks

Rich

I dont know how anyone can watch that sh#t. Most of those poo stance surfers are either dead or trying to crawl out of the grave. Its horrific to see how people surfed back then and thank God surfing movies have evolved since that prehestoric load of cr#p first raised its ugly head. There is only one thing sadder than that movie and that's the old coggers who still hold that movie in high esteem.
Please people... shelve it.
Why the hell would people still want to hold onto the beginning of any evolutionary process is beyond me.
For nostalgia ???!!!... pfft leave that for the film maker. That's the only thing he's got to hold onto.
Don't let his problem be your problem

P.s that stupid hippy music wants to make me chase hippies through the forest and chop their heads off

Let me guess, kk bought a single fin and doesn't know how to surf it, hence the anger.

Well KKK one great thing is looking at the footage and knowing you can do that stuff too i.e. gingerly cutback followed by a ginger re entry.
One of my particular favorite parts of the movie is when the old fruit stall guy hands over a big slice of cabbage for the travelling hippie/surfies to try. No charge fellas.
Wow, how cool is this?
Eating a slice of raw cabbage from a road side stall.

The best part of the movie is when it ended.

I reckon this is a huge part of MOTE's modern appeal, along with the fanciful notion that by watching it you are somehow part of the Cult Like Tribal Lifestyle of Surfing, you know, like really grasping the Soul of the experience unlike those kids doing airs and such like with stickers on their boards

Aping MOTE is an actual career path for aging surf stars and C-list pros.

At the moment I reckon with my knee a ginger turn of any kind is going to be as good as it gets for me. Where can I get the DVD? :(

Cabage shmabage...
Cabage was used as a symbol for the quality of the movie and the level of surfing.

But, but...the music with, like, deep lyrics, and the board shaping, and the ocean and like, the colour filters

Also it was recorded at double slow in 16mm courtesy of film Australia I think.
It captures the feel of surfing. In so far that its a great experience to ride a bike down a country road without being in the Tour de France.

Cole Slaw?
What about Kale?
If they did a proper remake they would be purchasing organic Kale and macchiatos at the local growers market.

:-D-:

That's actually brilliant. Like Warhol's Empire State movies, but emptier, more boring.
High fibre, organic food rendered utterly devoid of substance and meaning in intense slow motion detail.
Like Nicholson Baker collaborating with Damien Hirst. Just brilliant.

What would the soundtrack be?

Something by Philip Glas or better still John Cage. 15 hours of silence with a big reverberating fart running through it from the cabbage.
