Or just get behind the BWT which is a far easier product to sell to the general public and not hampered by all the legacy issues. Notice Kelly is a wildcard at lots of the events on the BWT. Be interesting to see how he goes with some of those shrewd, wily tough old bastards … probably be right at home!steve shearer wrote:they've put the same product out there several times now and the general public, especially Joe sixpack in buttfcuk middle america has had a sniff and turned his nose up at it.
so, adding a few anodyne announcers and blanding down the product presentation seems a case of doing a slightly weaker job of what has already been done. You do what has always been done and you get what has always been got, which is the deafening sound of crickets in middle australia/america.
IMO......they should be taking a leaf out of successful political strategy. To wit: they need to throw heaps of red meat to the fans and get them super fired up. OK, they moved slightly in that direction with J-Bay.....they need another major move in that direction. G-Land in Sep/Oct to break up the second half of the tour would be a shot in the arm.
And they need to look at format. Seriously. Not enough elite performances from the best of the best. Too many mediocre heats.
and they are going to have to tweak the commentary team. Get Blakey/Doherty/Carroll or some other aussies or maybe get some Brazilian or euros in there.

And the intro music when they present all the different locations, it's awful !!! and the Hollywood type of signs for each location, terrible.
That american dude Pat Pratnell, no clue. Strider no clue. I was kinda liking Joe Turpel but nah, he relies on Pottz too much.
Overall he new look and feel is terrible, the ESPN BS is not cool.
Pottz is the only there worth listening to, sad really

Right now is a good example. The womens is on hold but no reasons is given why.
As a surfer (their main audience), the reason it is on hold is interesting and worth tuning in for. Whats happening with the swell, wind, tide, surfers expectations etc - this is large a large component of surfing.

i would be winning this heat.
hope the girls accept the reality check on offer here.
and I'm happy to be called in for the Bobby Riggs as long as it's not against Carissa or Steph.

Few good sets now.
Tatiana looks at home. But I feel she should be a tennis player or gymnast.

"Have a coupla qualifying rounds where someone gains an advantage of some kind, but not a very big advantage. Then blam - one crazy day, all go in, one comes out."
I would hate to borrow from your idea Nick but you could possibly have an expression session style format in rounds 1 and 2 (4 man heats) then top 16 seeded into round 3 as man on man thereafter.
Have the whole thing wrapped up for a 32 man field in about 16 hours.
Sounds like it would work, you should submit it to the ASP

heh, Nick could submit all he wanted to the asp ... they are in the business though, of not listening to anyone. Especially anyone who speaks common sense & has solutions to their many problems.
