So what is the official terminology for someone who rides both longboards and shortboards depending on the conditions?

A Shlongboarder?

I don't understand the complaint, I surf Sydney 3-4 times a week on a short board and never have any issues with long boarders, in small waves surf the bloody shorey in bigger waves the crowds thin out and the ration is 100:1 short vs long, medium surf 9/10 you will find some peak unpopulated by a long boarder, if you are a weekend warrior and surf populated beaches well bad f&cking luck, pull your arse out of bed at 5 am weekdays.

Yep, although I think the longboard to shortboard ratio rises the earlier you surf in the day.

Longboarders all have jobs. You will never hear a longboarder complaining that the budget changes to the dole will affect them.

In that case the longboarder ranks will thin out with the new retirement age. Another great win for Abbott's budget

Well Pinnie, given the roll out it will probably just end up meaning all the anti longboard whingers won't be able to have the time to ride a mal as they trudge listlessly towards the big bundy clock in the sky. You will still have to live with old long boarders until then......including The Mad Monk......who may be looking at retirement nt sooner t Han he think if he keeps going.

Its a valid complaint, Longboarders can obviously sit further out and pick off the sets...

I should know, after a contra job for the local shaper he made me a 9'6" Mal for "small" days at the local point. Within 3 months I had morphed into a drug like frenzy of set waves in all sizes at all the local spots. The beautiful set up barrels, speed runs and the commitment required to set a rail to a section had me hooked.
By 6 months my shortboards felt like toothpicks and I left them in the depths of the shed with the Ab-cirle pro and random plastic children's toys.
Not long after, The whole town hated me, audible groans were heard as I pulled into the carpark.
I didn't care I could sit deeper, sit further out.

Moral of the story... well there isn't one.

You got me... "the whole town hated me" wasn't really true.
