half men need not apply
sorry, I can't help posting this
From a Surfing NSW PR email:
SYDNEY (Tuesday, 29 April 2014): World-renowned big-wave surfer and waterman Laird Hamilton will pay a visit to this year’s Port Stephens Country Club Southern Cross SUP Festival which kicks off from May 15- 18.
During the four-day SUP festival, the Hawaiian will do a meet-and-greet - where fans can meet the acclaimed stand-up paddleboarder, - interview with media and be there to support the sport of stand-up paddle.
The reason for Hamilton visiting Port Stephens is to show his Australian followers the latest range of stand-up paddle-boards and accessories from his brand “Laird SUP.”
“I’m really looking forward to coming to Australia and show the Australian audience my latest range of stand-up paddle boards and paddles,” said Hamilton. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to sample some decent waves while I’m there as well.”
The surf divisions for this year's Port Stephens Country Club Southern Cross SUP Festival will be located at either One-Mile Beach or Birubi Beach, with the racing divisions to be staged at Shoal Bay, right in front of the Port Stephens Country Club.
Throughout the event, there'll be an array of festival happenings taking place such as: free SUP lessons, SUP demonstration and coaching, stalls and SUP yoga.
2014 is the second year, the event has been sponsored by Port Stephens Country Club. Accommodation and meal packages (including board storage) are available for competitors.
The four-day event will see the surfing element of the event run on Thursday and Friday with the racing running from lunchtime Friday until Sunday.
Events in the racing component include: stand-up paddle board, 14-16 kilometer elite marathon, technical sprint race and a community teams race.
Entries to the event are currently open at surfingnsw.com.au

It all makes perfect sense, it's obvious the team have done their demographic research.
Port Stephens is now nothing more than a satellite of Sydney's more affluent but still active elderly.
The type represented in superannuation and insurance ads on TV, with a reassuring manner and cardigan, carrying a surfboard or golf clubs.

There's a woman who advertises around the eastern suburbs.petulance wrote:Any one here tried SUP yoga before?
I would be impressed if she did some while taking the drop at Tama on a big day but I haven't seen her do that yet.
Can end up in a similar position if the wave runs out of juice while I'm trying to get up while riding my fish.
Do you think Laird will have any arm wrestling challenges as part of his program?
I could see him dominating those pillow fights on a pole they used to have in the Clubbies.

Could be a good trap, lure all those bastards to one spot and get rid of them for good.
Re: half men need not apply
I recall at one stage a SUP riders organisaton in Au were trying to harden up their flaccid image by calling themselves "The league of Watermen" I assume the idea sank under an avalanche of ridicule.
