Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
Just saw the forecast for tomorrow, jeez!. Who is thinking of looking for a wave, and what board will you be taking/ hoping to surf?.

Oh. I thought the title meant "what board do you hope to surf once you get more skilled".
I saw the forecast. If I do go out, it won't be at my regular spots.

I'm going to take my only board out shortly and patiently wait out the back.

6'6 bonzer. That thing holds size no probs. paddles in early, drives and holds like mad. But, if it's double overhead plus, freight training, water moving all over, then I'll take the 8"0 rich quiggan gun for a paddle

I just surfed a new 5'9" Maurice, it was 6' plus, no big deal
another sensational forecast overcall.
another sensational forecast overcall.
Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
I surfed my 6'4" for the early this morning. Wasn't huge, slightly overhead but getting bigger now I assume.
Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
Wave height has easily doubled since this morning. Just went for a look at Longie bombie looking serious.
Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
Was it still 6' in the afternoon, when both major forecasting sites predicted it to peak? Cos where I was blokes were riding 7'+ boards scraping into triple-overhead Sunset style waves. Connect it to the inside for a 500m ride. The kind of surf big wave surfers on the East Coast live for.Nick Carroll wrote:I just surfed a new 5'9" Maurice, it was 6' plus, no big deal

And absolutely bang on forecast.

Well there's bloody we'll no 8ftrs around where I am on the Mid North Coast and I am hoping to ride my mal if I can find a wave big enough to push it into.Coops wrote:Yeah there were a few 8 fters around this arvo.
It's flat.

bigger this morning! for about 20 mins.
Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
Yes. I pulled the most sand I think I've ever collected from my ass crack after a solid low tide beach break session yesterday arvo.
Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
Did you even get a look at Bellambi, Matticus? I was wondering how it would look myself. I've seen some pretty big swells somehow miss it entirely when I though it might have picked up at least some size.Matticus Finch wrote:Still way too big to take my kids for a paddle, the beach is still getting smashed apart. Yesterday I tried to convince them we could drive to Bellambi and it would be small enough, I even drew diagrams of swell direction, the point and the protection it offers. No takers.

surfed a 5'10, with a pulled in round tail, stubby nose today and yesterday. not overly stoked on the board - but waves were solid. probly 6ft with some 8 ft wide sets. After the takeoff though, the good part of the wave where it was walling up and running was more like 4 ft. So my 5'10 felt skatey on the peak and too long on the shelf.

Re: Which board do you hope to surf tomorrow?
yesterday. no. had too much domestic stuff going on to make any roadtrips, time poor etc. so stayed close to home, but managed to fit in a 30min scout around the local traps and take a few pics. it was ugly. LOTS of water moving around. some freaky shit going down. took this pic of "Yours". yours, as in, you can fkn have it! it's guaranteed death. no narrow misses or slight chances of escape. you take off on this thing and you're eating shit straight up. won't name were it is. but it's not something you want to attempt. trust me.Ringmaster wrote:Any of you (Sydney) blokes got some big wave stories to tell from yesterday?
today. surfed my freckle out. maroubra. mid-south thru to mid-north. 2 peaks. both rights. both stacks of fun. 6foot+, and some 8foot+ bomb sets further north. tapered off a bit later on today but. waves were BIG, but not exactly formidable. more like these big bombie type 'gentle giants' that due to the south direction of swell, had this "angled-back-into-deeper-water" thing happening. which softened them a bit. essentially big angular thick faced walls, that would run for upto 200mtrs on the good ones. probably 2 or 3 sections you had to beat down. no turns, just take the drop, then draw up and milk the mid-to-high section of the face and chase it thru. took the 8'0 rich quiggan gun out. match made in heaven. paddled in super early, and cut the cake with ease. some big fun drops to be had too. my last wave this evening, was a smaller one. a six footer that broke a touch further north. jacking take-off, and hit the inside shallow bank and started wheeling and grinding along. a screamer, freight-train type bowl that run for ages, and finally exploded as it reached the storm water outlet. no barrels or any real turns, just paddle-point-and-shoot surfing that was still a fkk load of fun.
