Re: Road trip: Sunshine coast - South coat NSW.
All this talk of the south coast has me reminiscing over Don's Cabins.....
Those days we didn't drink that much, just a stubbie or two to wash down a cone or three, and a carton was good for a few days..... Until we said to Donnie, help yourself to a beer....
RIP Don.

Thanks very much for all the help everyone.
I'll print this travelogue goldmine out and have it on hand.
Any more thoughts highly appreciated.
I used to ride a motorcycle through Bangkok traffic when I lived there but don't look forward to getting caught in Sydney traffic in the van.

go via woolarah and get loafy to shout the whole tribe lunch at bistr moncur. It's tired and about 20 years past it's hip prime but as long as he's paying. would give the poor bugger a thrill to flash his dough around too

That's the Bewong servo. It's a truckie stop that serves truckie food. Run by a couple of good old girls. Better than most of the servo's on the coast run. Coffee is shit though.Rockin' Ron wrote:the servo as you approach wandandian (between nowra and milton) from the north does good food. Pound for pound the best steak sandwich in the land. You'll know it because there will be trucks everywhere.
They sell local honey that's pretty good.

Merry Beach Caravan park near Bawley Point is great for kids. Kangaroos roaming everywhere and it has a nice outlook and abalone to score if you do a quick snorkle around the rocks. Good walks around the headland. You can also head over to Pretty Beach for a wave.
Al this is gold. "She didn't realise I was fairly high and spent much of the evening trying to figure out why a purple and orange cow wanted me to climb a tree."

Cheers RR. Will give it a run at some point.Rockin' Ron wrote: Just remembered Duck about that restaurant you asked me about but I didn't get back to you? Tallwoods at Mollymook shops. Good value I reckon. Bit fancy. Not byo is a negative but i've eaten there a few times in the last year or so and it's been great.

If I want to bypass Sydney altogether whats the best motorway/highway route?Matticus Finch wrote:Or camp there at Pretty Beach, it's run by the National Parks I think, much quieter and very laid back. I live just the other side of Sydney at Stanwell Park, there's a few spots nearby you can park a van for free, or stick up a tent, toilets and cold showers only though. PM me when the time comes if you want the details.
I'd give Sydney a miss, just drive through, parking is expensive along with everything else. Easier to just fly down for a weekend and do it without a car. Driving over the Bridge, just be aware you'll be funnelled through the tunnel if you follow the signs or GPS to head south, you'll have to make a conscious effort if you want to drive over it. Make sure you have one of those E-Tag things too.

Approximately, M7 towards Wollongong.
Re: Road trip: Sunshine coast - South coat NSW.
F3,pennant hills Rd, down through silverwater Rd, St hillier Rd, Joseph St, Fairford Rd, follow it to the end past Lucas heights and onto heathcote rd. Pop out other side of Sydney toll free. Its the way to go anytime before 3ish. On the map its pretty much a line straight south from one end of Sydney to the other

Never mind all these fish n chip jaunts, cuttlefish loves board porn. Where can he fondle some beautiful resin tinted lovelys on his way down south?

also stocked at a few shops along the way...Finbox 1/269 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Thirroul, already mentioned...pilgrim's cafe, milton.
Re: Road trip: Sunshine coast - South coat NSW.
Pilgrim Cafe has good food. Although, I like the pies from the pie shop down the road better.

Hayden's Pies just the south side of Ulladulla does great pies and sausage rolls. I also love them because their Easter weekend pie special is usually rabbit pie.
Pilgrims brekkie is great. I quite like the pizza shop across the road (Milton Pizza? not sure of its name), although the fact that everyone in the kitchen (other than the owner/manager) seems to be a teenage girl is always amusing.
Havent found many good fish and chip places however. The one in the harbour (the old fisherman's co-op) is probably the best, but its pretty exxy ($17+ for a standard fish and chips). Mollymook shops, the surfclub and tiger's are so/so. Any suggestions?
