Not sure if anything was said. The media is kept well away from the surfers now. Media bracelets never meant much in the past, except maybe in Fiji. But this year, they are just bits of plastic around your wrist that make you unnecessarily sweat.

Process is this ... if you want to talk to an athlete, you have to fill out a form, state your purpose for wanting to talk to them, give them your mobile phone number. Annnnnnnnnd then wait to see if your phone rings.

well I massively doubt that. Australian sports fields are riddled with dreadful parents.

indeed the lesser realms of Australian surfing are littered with such parents these days.

ASP (as I'm told, I haven't cared to ask around) paid the travel and accom for a news ltd journo to come up and wine and dine at the racetrack.

No offense fong, but she's writing some fairly vanilla, puff pieces. She probs dare not bite the hand who's feeding her, huh? I wouldn't say it's cash for comment, but I would say it's not far.

My favourite so far is the piece about taking surfing to the olympic games while kelly slater's career is still active.
