Decent music. Keep it smooth, mellow and instrumental.

The 5 minute intro. Fuck off with the artsy fartsy inspiration montage and just cut to the surf.

Quadcopters. Need more of this shit as it looks great

More porn

Is anyone else more annoyed than entertained by Tim Bonython's online clips?
Constant slow motion, intercuts with 'lifestyle' shots (a bird flying by - useless) and the intro's and outro's generally taking up inordinate amount of time with little surf footage?
The recent clip of Voodoo was just wipeouts dammit

Just don't let any of them talk.

And show them being sunsmart, kids are impressionable.

I'd actually like to see someone losing their biscuits over the excess baggage charges/length restrictions.
Or being stoked when they find a good pie shop.

How about introducing some commentary, none of this "I'm stoked" crap from semi-literate surfers drinking their sponsor's beer and wearing their sponsors cap, but something informative and entertaining. Although certainly not highbrow, I found Bruce Brown's commentary to be entertaining.

Drop the gratuituous semi-naked female shots: that's what porn sites are for.

Less vids with stupid circus tricks (that's what the ASP World Tour is for) and more with bigger waves and surfers doing nice and long fluid turns etc...

Modern competition surfing is a lot of things, but beautiful and graceful it ain't - that's what's missing.

I really prefer surf movies with a lot of texture shots. In fact Im pretty happy if the whole thing works as one long texture shot really.
Helps if the surfings good too. Seagulls, sand, crabs, waves, rain and sunshine, bring it on.

Fcuk yes

Something that isn't either "reggae", Jack Johnson, Donavan Fartenfelcher or (for the wipeout bits) ghey nu-metal
Or worse hip hop music. There is a time and a fcuken place and surf videos aint it.

videos of californian surfers surfing in mexico don't have enough mexican music playing over the top. the video guys should dig into this list "the black hole of mexican rock - 40 forgotten albums + 2". but then i give some of this stuff a whirl and little bazza asks me to turn it off, so maybe it's not good music.

Nothing like a glut of thrash metal with fast cropping of lots of unmade airs on 2 ft closeouts to get you reaching for the next button.

Saw one surf dvd recently called "yeah dude" and thought it was pretty terrible as the waves were 2foot max through the whole dvd. Wasn't even that long but fcuk it got boring. :~

Anyone got a heap of those free surf vids that come with mags? anyone look at em more than once? nah didn't think so. I have over 50 dvd's and I watch probably 10 on them on a reasonably regular basis. On that list and not in any order. Sipping Jetstreams, Storm riders, green iguana, MOTE, Seasons (mag freebee), ASL 250 (freebee), who is JOB. Just a quick selection. My point is, if you are going to bag film makers for what they put in, think about the market and what sells. I'v made a few vids and people can be rabid in their abuse of the content/style/music choice/wave choice and locations. Its easy to sit back and criticize, but think about what you would do. I bet there would be plenty of folk out there who would hate it. Surf vids are dying at the hands of the 4min clip and the instant gratification of the net. So, by all means make your suggestions, but remember the lines from that old song "you can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself".
When it gets to this level of self important stupidity I lose interest.

Best ever freebie mag one was the comp in Mexico. Bloody brilliant waves and surfing. Used to have a VHS of the Grajagan Comp that Luke Egan won. That was good. I like the videos on coastal watch as a rule.

Hey Spork, if you like those dvds you get with mags one just come out with waves called carpark stories. This one I liked and it was made by the same guy who made the one I hated. It has a left somewhere in oz with an insane left barrel(could be in vicco, but I heard vicco doesn't barrel).

Watched Kongs Island on youtube or whatever.
Reducing the action to cartoon antics with sound effects just hasn't been developed far enough since this excellent example was created. :-)(
