And what's the go with those twits who paddle out and sit right next to you when you are by yourself?

There could be peaks working all down the beach, but they will come straight out next to you and start talking.

Fcuk. Off.

Couldn't agree more. Almost every time it's a chat followed by a snake or drop in. Usually people who are useless as well.

Always nice to paddle everyone out off the bank and then paddle back inside :B

I hate them, really fcking hate them. I have more than a touch of agrophobia though and it stresses me out if there are a lot of people out. I don't like any crowded place whether that's the surf or the land. Which them means I struggle in crowded conditions as I spend more time freaking out than concentrating on getting a wave.

I dont mind crowds if im pumped, frothing, twitching and shaking. Nobody drops in on me.

If your scoring waves then the fact that its crowded and your scoring can add a little extra spice. If its crowded and your not its crap. If its so crowded and unco that its becoming dangerous then its time to get out.

Really been enjoying my surfing lately. In fact I'd say I'm pretty stoked surf wise this summer.

Best way to combat summer crowds is to NOT buy one of those silly stumpy standup boogyboard type surfboards, but to get a bigger longer board, mid length or 9ft+. be greedy, out paddle everyone :) sit further out and get in earlier. Or sit in closer and just milk the bejesus out of anything resembling a wave. Typical summer crowds are so full of dweebs that just wanna catch a tan or tell everyone they "went surfin" but barely catch u fkn wave. So go out there and take what's already yours anyway. Embrace ur inner wavehog .

It is funny when you paddle right into the middle of the pack, sit a little inside and then everyone consistently doesn't pick the wave up. :B

Terrifying when a bigger one comes through and you realize you have positioned yourself directly in front of the whole uncoordinated mass of surfcraft

or the opposite where you wait for the bigger sets and finally get one to be confronted with a wall of people. i've come way to close to scalping a few guys trying to pick a way thru.

surfed snapper yesterday among the masses and managed to get a few fun ones. its only really crowded out there when there are a lot of locals out. holiday crowds dont tend to know where to sit or which waves to take.

Surfed snapper again a few months back for the first time in many years. Man what a circus . So many clowns just kidding themselves by trying to paddle the deepest behind the suck rock. Out of about 20, about 3 were actually catching waves, and the rest were either not going for waves, or the ones that were just got fkn cartwheeled on take off by the backwash.. Ego and idiocy personified.. Meanwhile , if u sat just a shave wider and in against the edge of the rock u'd be privy to so many waves that would be better shaped and slip past these pack of mongs... Fk it was laughable :D

Byrons cool Boo. Just go with the flow.

Are you going to be camping or living a bit higher of the hog ?

If you're slumming it ... I recommend going someplace broken ... know what I mean ?

I surfed small but perfect little peelers last year at Clarkes Beach ... me and one other ... on a weekend. We were joined just briefly by a couple that lived over the road and had been watching the frivolity from their veranda.

Steve might lend you a pair of happy pants ... if you ask politely.

Yeah, that's my preferred spot, Womble.
Little bit higher than camping this time.

I've actually learnt to cope with Byron these days. Friends have an annual tent spot at Clarke's over Easter so we are there most years now as they want a cabin.
Sometimes I take a beer down and sit on the rock at The Pass and just watch the carnage and laugh. If you aren't in it it's very amusing.

winter in byron is nice, carparks are usually less full. gets boring very quickly though.
the most entertainment is found at the drum circle with the fire twirlers in fisherman pants
