stones that float
Dee Why to Longy stretch has a thick covering of pumice on the high tide line. Some have barnacle growth.
Anyone have an idea of their origin?

Re: stones that float
There was an underwater volcanic eruption off NZ last year, the pumice raft was about 500km x 50km and it has been breaking up and moving around with the currents ever since.
Re: stones that float
Thanks Alak, v interesting.
Re: stones that float
Sail through it you remove all barnacles anti-fouling and hull paint. It also was as good for engine intakes as the ash cloud are for jet engines in planes .alakaboo wrote:There was an underwater volcanic eruption off NZ last year, the pumice raft was about 500km x 50km and it has been breaking up and moving around with the currents ever since.
Jaffa, I'm opinionated, and I'm sometimes right. So?

You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Re: stones that float
I collected a bit up at Crescent in July and I've been grabbing a few bits lately at Bondi and Bronte. Seems to have been a lot around lately after the storms a while back. As said they seem to have been floating around picking up barnacles and stuff. Makes beachcombing a bit more interesting.

I got stoned while surfing Narrabeen last week . Not as nice as some jet-Black-with-diamond-like-sparkle bits I found a year ago at Fishermans Beach , but it's nice to have a little collection of pumice going , and to build on .
Floating rocks are pretty cool .

Had some floating in a bowl of water on the table out the back but my wife said they look like lumps of poo so I took them out.

Wow, read Dons link to the origins of this pumice. Shows how some of our currents work.
I'm still finishing this book about a container load of toy animals eg ducks that has been floating around the world for twenty years. Surprisingly the book claims we actually know very little about how undersea weather patterns develop and their effects.
Biggest pumice float in 50 years. Featuring at a beach near you now.

Lots of small bits along the high tide mark at Redhead a few days ago, picked up a handful, it weighs nothing.
