AB INJURED IN BALI
Since we moved down the road to Tugun a couple of years ago ... I've spent a bit of time floating near the impact zone with Al Byrne ... at the infamous and legendary straight hander AB likes to call T-Land ... and in all honesty you couldn't meet a nicer bloke.
Unfortunately Alan has been injured in a motorcycle accident in Bali, and is in a coma.

Don't know what gods you guys pray to ... but shoot a prayer up to whom ever for Alan to pull through this one. I know your god Braithy ... get to work son.

The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.

My thoughts go out to AB, this looks like a long haul, so when he comes out he'll be hearing the support.

Crazy bad news!

Terrible.
Just got an AB channel thruster - beautifully crafted.
Riding a bike in Bali is nothing short of nightmarish these days. Don't buy into the Deus freewheelin' myth over there.

Re: AB INJURED IN BALI
Yes, it's a tradgedy. AB is a life-long inspiration for his mastery of the channel bottom.
I don't know the details, but questions are - Was he an experienced rider? Was he wearing a helmet?
I've never been to Bali, but if it's anything like the backroads of Thailand, where I rode extensively, I can well understand the likelhood of an accident even for the most experienced rider.
Third-world roads, lax safety rules and the casual confidence of a holiday-maker, who is allowed to hire a bike without even being required to have a licence.
I myself am incredibly lucky. Even those lil' low-powered fun-bikes are like hurling yourself with your eggshell head at a brick wall.

Re: AB INJURED IN BALI
Sad news.

You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Re: AB INJURED IN BALI
Hope he realised how much joy he gave to people thru his boards. Some of my best ever waves were on his sleek channel bottoms. RIP
Re: AB INJURED IN BALI
Awful news ... such a great loss ... to not just his family but the wider surfing community.
My deepest condolences go out to Alan's family.
I'll miss bumping into Al walking down the road on early morning surf checks ... he had such a sunny disposition ... a sad day indeed.

I really thought he'd pull through. Sad.
Who will take up the channel legacy?

I tried to comment on the article directly, but I'm not on Facebook.Nick Carroll wrote:Might help to read this, maybe learn a bit more about him

Nick, that is hands down the best obituary I think I've ever read.
I didn't know Al from a bar of soap, but I feel like we were best mates.
