Bells Beach.
It seems to be looking better for swell.
Thinking about packing a 7'0'.
Anyone know the best way to get from Tullamarine to Torquay?
And anyone in the area got a beater bike to sell or hire for the Easter period?

Re: Bells Beach.
I'm on a budget and prefer to ride a bike.
This one looks fine.

Cheapest way would be a bus to Spencer Street Station. Train to Geelong. Bus to Torquay.steve shearer wrote:It seems to be looking better for swell.

Drysdale is on the Bellarine Peninsula. Nowhere near Torquay.
Just steal one in Torquay. Stoners wouldn't notice it was missing. Put it back when you're finished.

Bus/train/bus.......sounds complicated.
There's no shuttle bus to Torquay?
These Victorian modes of transport sound primitive.

Not direct from Melbourne to Torquay.
There's the Gull bus which goes from the airport to Geelong. For a few extra bucks they may take you on to Torquay. I've never caught it.
Fly into Avalon. There should be a bus from there that goes into Geelong then onto the coast.
I can check if my folks are free. They may be able to pick you up and drop you down there. I wouldn't get in a car with them though. My Dads in his 80's and drives like he's the only one on the road. You could very well die.

Re: Bells Beach.
hahhaha, he sounds great.
Ticket is already booked to Tullamarine. Jetstar flies into Avalon and they can suck my sweaty ball bag.
I'd much rather pay your old man some fuel money and take him for a couple ponies at the PtLeo surf club than pay some cnutox bus driver.

Being just a humble spoke stoker, to me, that looks like it'll do the job you want Steve. Forsure.steve shearer wrote:I'm on a budget and prefer to ride a bike.

Pretty much all I wore growing up down there. Just make sure it's a Cats beanie. You'll win plenty of new friends.steve shearer wrote:socks, thongs, a beanie and a steamer for the dawnie

Don't listen to BA, Shearer. The beanie you want to wear is a yellow & brown Hawthorn Hawks beanie.
You'll be sweet as a nut.

Re: Bells Beach.
The family and I are heading down to see the comp (two VERY excited little grommets, one wife that is not so...)
We are staying on the Anglesea side of Bells - what is the best way to get there on Sat/Sun? I'm assuming taking the car is a no-go, and we'll need to get a shuttle or something down to Bells itself?

Damo car is cool to get a park as long as you go early and leave late OR seeing the missus is not keen get her to drop ya of with the frothing groms and she can go shopping at TQ or drive around picking up buffed young studs OR she could drive Shearer around and get to meet all the heavy hitters.
Either way pack food or a loaded wallet and take ya patience pills, but if its on it will be worth every bit of it and the groms will be totally stoked.
Shearer don't take a board and make life easy to get a lift from anyone, when ya want a surf borrow or test ride a firewire from any big RQ store

Re: Bells Beach.
There's nothing cool about having a pushbike at Bells. Hopefully I'll be able to give shearer a ride occasionally in my Subaru Forester (ha ha)
The whole surf culture down there is based on motor vehicles, the more violent the better.
They made the first surf track to the spot using a god damn bulldozer for fcuk's sake.
Looks like there'll be some surf off the back side of Easter but shouldn't be too frigid, comparatively.
Looks like there should also be some east coast surf through Easter off a long form easterly tradewind.
I think the event itself will be a classic this year. There's a lot of guys in form and that Margs event tuned up some surfers who could have gone a lot further at Snapper. Also, they can't possibly finish the event in that swell off the back of Easter -- there's not enough time. So the final eight or whatever are gonna Suffer. I love it.

I don't see why they can't start the event on Friday and finish it on Mon/Tues Nick? Still contestable surf come Mon/Tues, although local winds look the X factor then.Nick Carroll wrote:Also, they can't possibly finish the event in that swell off the back of Easter -- there's not enough time.
