John John looked impressive in the highlights package. Streets ahead of Slater.

Alain Riou (sp?) looked pretty shmick too, and Flores.

I just had a look at the first round draw for Haleiwa and like the sound of Gony Zubizaretta, Maxime Huscenot, Nic Von Rupp, Ramzi Boukhiam and Billy Kemper. If I were a gambling man I would lay money on a Hodel Collazo over a Dane Reynolds any day.

Ah ... they get paid squillions.

Why risk having their face dragged over shallow volcanic reef.

Pretty and rich, trumps rich any day of the week. Just ask James Packer or Kerry Anne Kennerley.

Is it the right preparation?

Was it in the late 90's Mick Cambell was one heat from being world champ over trained in Aus and bombed out early in the Pipe Masters and Slater managed to win the event and the title?

Hope history doesnt repeat itself but these guys are experienced campaigners. Yet I like Slaters approach getting to Hawaii early for the contests.

Every piece of common sense, logic and intuition screams Parko should be in Hawaii competing for the Triple Crown and maintaining the rage.

I would have thought so too. As well as surfing Pipe in all conditions that could be contestable the year Taj won the final was in smaller junkier surf.

Top seeds were seeded into the round of 64. It's finished and they're halfway through the Rd32. Parko definitely isn't surfing it.

Seems strange to me to.....
