Kirra Cruise Ship Terminal

Post by steve shearer » Thu Oct 18, 2012 12:35 pm

http://www.surfinglife.com.au/news/asl- ... -terminal-

On the one hand it's almost like the rampant bogan conservatism of the Goldy has got what it deserved by electing an A-Class greedhead and cnutstain in Tom Tate......

On the other hand......surely this fcukery cannot stand?

btw Tom Tate is a millionaire businessman CEO of the Islander Resort in Surfers Paradise and a civil engineer by profession.

His idea of relaxing is watching the rugby or going boating.

How the fark did this douchebag get his hands on the reins?

Easy. Nobody was watching.

Here's where the Gold Coast faces a crossroads. What sort of place does it really want to be?

I tried to warn people.

Steve, the Kirra proposal won't get up. It's a fishing expedition.

The alarming thing is that there is some serious consideration being given to the construction of a terminal inside the Broadwater (deliberately misreported as being off Main Beach).

edit: No, unfortunately people were watching, but they were watching their super fund balance.

weren't watching ?

Kirra's been an issue on the radar for the last few years.

There was a paddle-out just two years ago with a few thousand surfers.

Have a look at the bloke cited as supporting the project.

This is Joh/Russ Hinze politics all over again.

The greed heads and engineers have got their hands on the family silver-ware and they will plunder it mercilessly.

I actually feel a bit scared that these cnuts are less than a hundred miles away as the crow flies.

Can't understand the fuss. After all, there will be a wave pool “of a standard to host international surfing competitions”

Sad thing is, even if this doesn't go ahead, sometime something like it will. And then somewhere else and then ..........................

philosophically that is probably right on the money.

the problem is contagion to neighbouring areas.

This also should be a stick in the eye to people advocating for wavepools.

already they are being brandished as a weapon by unscrupulous property developers.

Wonder how K.Slater and Greg Webber feel about their wave pools going ahead in this dystopian monstrosity?

not from this POV.

I think it's just flat out fcuked.

but if anywhere could unleash this kind of madness in 2012 it's the values/culture and cronyism that now runs rampant on the GOld Coast.

Ergo, there is less risk of contagion, no?

It's already spread across the border into the Tweed.

Hopefully they will get done for accepting baksheesh from disreputable sources before their short sighted wankfest can come to pass but thats not what happened on the Tweed. It was only after the pileging that they came unstuck. Tweed used to have a progressive council until the backlash by the conservatives. Of course thats nothing compared to what the banana benders have dealt themselves with Newman.

Its a bit late for that isn't it? They went straight through that intersection about 50 years ago.

Although, its fairly obvious this idea is pure spruik.
The bloke is a classic engineer (I should know), doesn't feel like has has achieved anything unless he has dug a hole or poured some concrete.
Agree with Ron - the whole idea is unlikey - the biggest outcry should be Council spending ratepayers cash on 'investigations'. If someone wants to build a terminal - make them fork out the cash and take the risk. The fact that Council is so 'for it ' but still has to stump up the feasibility money plus a like cheap deal on some land pretty clearly demonstrates that the thing wont fly - the reward isn't really there.

Actually, Council is not in favour of the Kirra proposal. Which is why the developer is going to the media and the State Govt.
They aren't even in favour of a cruise ship terminal. Last count was 4 for, 2 against, 10 undecided I think. Mayor abstaining.

But the link from your first post says that Council have just voted to spend $1.7M of ratepayers money on 'investigations and consultation'?

Undecided counts as 'spend more money to help us decide'. Support for spending money unnecessarily but not yet support for a terminal.
A number of reasons why that might be the way people voted.
