Re: "the shire" real life in cronulla?
Of the 100 or so people ive met from Cronulla none of them are like those fake wankers on the show. If anyone thinks that that's what its like there, then they are as dumb as the idiots on the show.

Have to agree with coops and Nick.
Can't lay claim to 100 or so but probably 20 or more I've got to know pretty well over the years.Friendly, professional, genuine (but boy are they "loyal" to the Shire.
And it's a nice part of the world.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

its a very nice part of the world. couldnt be further away than how it is portrayed.
Re: "the shire" real life in cronulla?
Same wankers in any part of sydney. I'm more offended by the "soft scripting"- that dialogue could have been used in Abu Gharaib torture sessions
Re: "the shire" real life in cronulla?
The feel of the place after the riots was tolerance.
Before then was greAT if you're a whitey.
Now with the old pie shop, and the giant dunes gone, instead there's a suburban and industrial development it feels slummy middleclass instead of unaffected by anything white midd e class. No,I haven't got friends there.

Not too much middle class anything in Cronulla - all upper class now. The middle class are out past the National Park in Engadine
The show is a clever money grabber. I grew up in Cronulla, and there are many who are racist, but so are lots of people in lots of places. I spent some time in Jersey too, nothing like Jersey shore either. Coincidence?
Can't wait to watch Puberty Blues - will they digitally add the sand dunes and digitally remove the lexus' and cafes?

Did the Sutherland to Surf run this morning. The emcees at the start and finish of the event kept saying that "this is the real Shire, and not what you see on Channel 10".
I did notice that unlike the City2Surf, there wasn't much ethnic / cultural group diversity amongst the runners.

I think most intelligent people realise it's a load of shit. It seems most of them aren't even from 'the shire'. I'm nost sure why they called it that, I guess trying some OC or Jersey Shore type of thing.
I spent 31 years living in the area and like anywhere you get all kinds of people.

I watched about 2-3 minutes of those vacuous narcissisistic bimbos and bogans. Not representative of "The Shire" based on people that I've met.
However, considering that there are numerous local councils and shires in Sydney it seems to me to be the epitome of smugness and general wankerism to call your local area THE Shire.
Just as smug are those other wankers with the bumper stickers "Avalon, somewhere on the NSW coast".

Re: "the shire" real life in cronulla?
I was born and raised there and never even heard the expression 'the shire' or 'God's country' or whatever until i was in my 20s. I'm pretty sure it didn't come from within 'the shire' - seemed to be a derogatory label coined by people elsewhere.chrisb wrote: However, considering that there are numerous local councils and shires in Sydney it seems to me to be the epitome of smugness and general wankerism to call your local area THE Shire.

Clearly you didn't leave the shire much until later in life.

Yeah, it's funny that when you're a hid/young adult you seem to spend most of your time going to school, playing sport, visiting friends and relos in the area in which you liveGlamarama wrote:Clearly you didn't leave the shire much until later in life.
Did you get out of the eastern suburbs much Glam?

Just get a bit tetchy when peopl go on about shire people staying within their own boundaries - as though people from the nth shore, nthn beaches or eastern suburbs aren't the same.

I can't decide which one's my favourite.
But I think the dumb one who goes to the beach.
What a cracker. I thought the acting was way better than any soap opera.
"omygord, i even look good in the mirror!"
"i just want a slushie and one of your friends"
2 best lines ive ever heard on teev.
I knew i'd be rewarded if i looked into The Shire. The Shire would look into me.
