Your hairline looks like it's marching back too Hatchy.. Just sayin'
Small day, had to keep going right to get momentum
And the rug is fine mate don't worry about that

The booties you mean? It's a decent walk down a cliff, then across rocks and out on a reef before you get a chance to paddle, I'd rather I was sure-footed so I didn't drop my board with the camera

In mho the gopro is great for water shots of barrels and landscape type stuff. Even made my old car look good when I posted shots on carsales
As far as surfers on waves goes it is about as interesting as all shots from the board.i.e. not very. If its video you have no idea why the guy is jiving up and down because you can't see the wave properly.
The soloshot is apparently for surfers sans girlfriend or with girlfriend who is unco surf photography wise. My wife being a prime example.
At Crescent Head I scored a nose ride right through on one wave from the point to the flags on the other side of the creek and then rode the white water to shore. Wifey says I got a good shot of you on that wave. This is later revealed to be me trimming in ankle deep white water a few feet from the shore

I mean, tastebuds? WGAF?

My wife took some shots of "me" but when we downloaded them, they were some other blokes. Didn't get one of me. She reckoned we all looked the same. Is that racist?

My guess is your board would have something to do with it.
I'd say it's more than likely because these days I have to adopt a kung-fu stance to deflect all the fcukwit kooks that constantly try and drop in on EVERY wave EVERY surf.

i'm sorry
i feel awful
but seriously, what stillhere said was right. the gro pro does little to capture the wave itself or the surfer.
so i'll stick with the Soloshot and fetch meself a camcorder, and THEN you'll get your own back on critiquing because they leave nothing to question.
I tried it on the front of the board today. No good. It's too low so you don't capture much and half the time it's weird because the nose of your board is typically pointing upwards from the wave. I've seen people use them with helmet and chest cams on bikes and surfboards and I reckon that is better as it's higher up so you capture the action better.
I agree the soloshot would be better to capture the whole of you surfing but what I like about the Go Pro is it is actually on your board so it really puts you right there in the moment. The duck-diving shots when down well are really cool for one
I'll stick with it facing me for now but aim it a bit higher next time.

Also you'd have to go to a state that has barreling waves.
