not sure if anyone else has suggested this, but maybe vent holes for when on the roof and its bloody hot?
wheels for lugging around airports and terminals.
a pocket for wax, fins, fin key, wax comb and accomodator and spare legrope strings.
a section strong enough to sit on while waiting for the tide to come in at grajagan river.
fold out monopoly board.
top load sticker.
fragile sticker.
also these could be sent by fedex, ive heard of some people sending boards by fedex. they had this deal where you get two packages for the price of one.
so you send an empty letter to yourself, the other package is your board case.
this was ages ago so prob doesnt apply anymore.

Now you're talking boys, especially the vent/drain idea. The air bag thing looks good, Im not sure about penetrating hits though. One of my fave boards has a filthy big corner shaped ding in the deck thanks to airline travel and that was through an O&E double travelbag chock full of bubble wrap, hence my direction with this hard case.
Would you prefer a case molded as close as possible to the board shape or a square case with heaps of room for other gear?
Is it important that it is expandable?
Heres a link to one idea,
http://swellshellsurf.com/swell-shell-h ... -case.html
Mine would be more clamshell style with access to front and rear too.
When it gets to this level of self important stupidity I lose interest.

spork I think this has already been done -- have seen hard case board bags in the USA
think there would be many problems getting 'em to work myself, but good luck!

The main bloke in that company (Santa Monica something) died suddenly, Nick. Seems to be a few rushing to fill the gap. There're still a few floating around in warehouses etc.

Yeah, Iv checked out the competition, all the ones I'v seen have been end loading and come apart in the middle. I'm trying to make it more like a clamshell/guitar case style. Im a design and tech teacher so have been drawing the whole thing with CAD and making section molds etc. I have my HSC students stress testing materials and doing the bulk of research etc. I'm pretty sure I can deliver several prototypes at some stage in the future. One will be like a second skin, fitting the board shape closely and weighing aprox 2Kg. The other a wider square shape, more heavy duty and lockable and expandable.

the second skin one will definitely need venting. You'll get vapour pressure from any water left in the heat.

You sound wounded Sauce.
Something you need to share?

It can be healing to let go of the past.
