"At first light, Ghost Tree saw a 17-foot swell approaching from due west at 20-second intervals."

Within that image lies the antithesis between one of the worlds most boringly mind numbing sports and the rage and furry inflicted environment that top level surfers find themselves in.

Footy…boring
Swimming….boring
Cycling…boring
Athletics….boring
Tennis….boring
Surfing competitions in small waves….boring
Surfing competitions…..boring

Shane Dorian et al free surfing monsters …..not boring

totally agree
however shane dorian playing tennis with laird hamilton, while surfing ginornous waves wouldnt be boring.
imagine how big the net would be, and the umpires chair.
youd need super bouncy balls that float.

or paintball big wave surfing.
waimea, 5 dudes drop in and you fire off from your guns on your hips. bang bang.

or big wave paintball waterbike cycling that would be fun.

or when a dudes in a pit at teahupoo, all the peanut gallery in the channel is firing nerf arrows at him to make it interesting. hed had a helmet with lazer beams to blast the arrows away.
