Is it possible to lock board onto roof racks

Post by grapsta » Thu Oct 27, 2011 10:33 am

I'm doing a road trip in a few weeks and taking a sedan .... a mate has mentioned ads in surf mags selling racks that you can lock your board onto . anyone know a website or company name so I can research them ?.....I'm staying in cabins for the most part but tenting it in Byron and want to be able to have a few jugs at the Rails while my board ( 8 FT) is safe somewhere .

In years past when the main fin was glassed in I used a chain and 2 padlocks (lenth of plastic tubing over the chain) to go around the board just forward of the fin and locked up snugly. then the other end around the racks.

But you need the racks to be not easily removed, and these days most fins are interchangeable.

Also think there's something like a lap top security cable which attaches to your leash plug.

Or maybe you could leave it at merkins for the price of a bag or two of coffee.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

thanks for the responses..some good suggestions . another question - I've got some Billabong soft racks that haven't been opened ....but I'm kind of assuming I should get some proper racks before a big trip...what do you guys think - are those soft racks a bit half assed ?

Don't use them for a long board.
And they cause quite a leak if it's raining because they distort the door seals.

And for short boarders the ultimate...no see...no tempatation...but in grey so it doesn't turn into a convection oven...

You don't need to worry about locks, just get one of these and leave ya window down...

Those SPT things look good - but how exactly would you attach them securely so that board bag couldn't be wrenched underneath the strap

Basic shape of the board shouldn't permit.

Then again, any can’t with a sharp knife can help themselves.

It might keep the honest people from knocking them off. Surely any of this is just a mild deterent. Okay if you want to duck off for five minutes but not left unattended for hours in the middle of nowhere.

What sort of car do you have. Get some decent racks and if you have an 8 ft board lock it up inside at night. You can walk everywhere in Byron so there will be no need to drive. Problem solved.

What if you ride a 16ft Roy Stewart aircraft carrier?
