I'm an exercise physiologist who specialises in chronic joint conditions and chronic pain. If you can get yourself to the Inner-West of Sydney we can check out whats happening in your shoulder.wjp wrote:Hey Cpt Caveman - I've got a shoulder problem at the moment (impingment and bursitis). Theres no one-size-fits-all approach unfortunately. I would need to assess you first to get an understanding of whats happening with your shoulders and upper body. Usually all it takes is some consistent effort put into an exercise program designed to improve the biomechanics of your shoulders and core, combined with some stretching and other relief strategies.
PM sent.

All good advice Braithy.
Fish oil and glucosamine - yeah take 'em.
I've read reports that glucosamine is BS for helping to grow/heal cartilage, but I read that in a shitty newspaper.
I have also read bona fide double blind fullbottle fark your mama academic research papers, which measured improved thickness of cartilage and soft tissue. Until further notice, I'm going with the research.
Fish oil, good for everything probably, and almost certainly good for joints. All that stuff is more long term maintenance though.
Sharp pains, dull pains, yep, there is a nerve issue which is only minor at this stage. If it actually pinches your neck will seize up like a mofo. Runs from the back of your head down through your shoulder to your wrist and behind your elbow, it's a biatch.
CC gave me help with some additional stretches for the neck. The muscles there are hard to get a good stretch into, which is the biggest problem.
Me, haven't been surfing as much lately but likely to be doing a lot more of it in the near future, if there be waves. Neck and shoulders better than ever at the moment.
CC and Ots know their business.

Re: Hey Olds & SS
Remember the thread on stretching? can't be arsed to find it, but there wasn't really a consensus as I recall. For mine I find strerching ever day, usally when the news is on in the evening, makes a difference to how many aches and pains I get next surf. I also have a bit of a warm up stretch prior to paddling out. Some say before, some say after, some say waste of time, but it works for me and after all cats do it, so do dogs.
Your opinion is worth as much as it costs.

That may well be the gayest thing I've ever seen. That's gayer than you getting bummed by six blokes.

Gee, so glad I held off from taking a picture of my friend's birthday card with a cat in lotus posture.
